Wigan staff not paid again

Talking to a mate who works at wigan last night, was supposed to get paid today (friday) he got a email about 7pm last night saying that although the owner had transfered money to pay wages it was unlikely that the wages would reach employes banks on time. He is expecting another -4 points for this. He cant see wigan meeting any EFL financial requirements . And will be -12 points at start of the season if lucky not to be thrown out of the league.

They are also due to be paid again on the 30th June. Surely they can’t just keep being docked points? Efl need to tell the owners either pay up and transfer the 125% or you’ll be thrown out of the Efl pyramid. That may change the owners mindset on things

Aye, that'll be another deduction then. With 2 more pay days before a ball is kicked, the chances are they'll be -20 at the start of the season and doomed to relegation. You have to feel for their fans and staff. The better players will be able to move due to breach of contract also. A sad state of affairs and something Fleetwood may well suffer once Pilley is sent down and his funds have dried up.

Their going to be a bit short of players next season on top of the points deductions as no one is going to sign or re sign with no guarantees of getting paid until it's all sorted.

Spoke to a Wigan fan last week he said the owner is selling a property and the millions from that he was going to put into the club hope it doesn't take too long!

They need some drastic action against them. Are people being paid, albeit late, or just getting nothing at the moment? It's livelihoods at stake here, mortgage payments etc.
Paid late as far I understand the situation, cash flow appears to be the problem And awaiting a (supposed) cash injection by owners.
The senior pros Im not really too concern about, they can always find another club willing to pay them an inflated salary so far above The national average but maybe not as much as Wigan are paying them (and there lies the problem), it’s the staff who I feel sorry for, the people who operate the daily running of the stadium, work in the offices, work in the community, coaches and young players etc. They will be getting paid a ‘normal’ working wage and not so easy to find another job!

Totally agree

It’s disgusting to not be paid every month on time if you’re a normal working person. Employed by the club and not being paid on time and you have direct debits coming out the bank and being charged by the bank for non payment of direct debits. Awful situation for staff to have to worry every month wondering if they’ll be paid.
EFL need to come down harder on these owners. Surely this can’t be allowed to continue at Wigan

Whilst situations like this are all more common and may benefit us just by running a sustainable club, it is sad to see knowing genuine fans suffer.

I've not kept a close eye on them really... what's going on with their ownership? What's the reason they aren't providing the money?

Edit, only just seen the latest...

I wouldn't trust anything the current owner says. He's lied time and time again about staff wages. This smells like he's trying to buy more time or avoid the next points deduction due for missing yet another payment. Wigan are in desperate trouble, even if they do have a new owner and sale agreed, there is every chance by the time that happens will be certain for the drop.

Surely if there was a new owner we’d have heard about it like we do with every other club long before it happens. Think the lying owners at Wigan are playing everyone including the EFL
This has probably been said due to non payment of wages and two out of the three board members resigning last night with immediate effect
Club shop and ticket office at Wigan are closed and staff have been told to work from home apparently but I heard staff walked out but that could be wrong
Sign up saying closed due to technical difficulties probably cos no staff to run it
Will all become clear as the days go on I guess

Absolutely agree, their owner is a liar and will do anything to delay paying for anything. He's very much in the Oyston mould. You have to feel for Wigan fans because whoever comes in is going to have a mountain of sh1t to deal with, that's even if they exist, which I highly doubt.

Latest rumour doing the round a verry rich guy who has slot to do with Wigan Rugby wants to buy the ground and then lease parts back to athletic , could of course be total Bu** S***

Rumour of Lenagan buying them comes up every few years. Actually the truth seems to be that he’s happy enough to lease it and not have the expense …

I heard that one before, usually it never happens, or if it does the expected funds don't end up going where you expected.

It gets worse … Wigan’s ‘buyer’ appears to be the 21-year-old ‘soft drinks tycoon’ from Solihull who has supposedly been buying Morecambe for the past six months …

You have to feel for the staff. Doing a job they expect to be paid for.

I've said time and time again that every FC owner should have to lodge a bond with the football authorities exactly for this event. The size of it would vary club to club depending on wages.

Once a pay default is made the bond kicks in and probably should be 6 months worth. Default should be met by an increased bond and the owner being severely sanctioned to the point of frozen assets and possessions of.

That's the rumour.
This is the tycoon pop seller in question.
Two companies, both with net liabilities, and just 3 employees between them...

He failed the EFL's ODT test when he went for Morecambe, so surely he'd fail again?

But - Matt Slater of The Athletic covered Wigan when they were in administration. He says on Twitter there are two parties interested and ‘one is considerably better than the other’.
When pressed by someone if he meant in terms of finances or their ‘experience/plans/reputation’ he said the latter.
So there could be a much more credible potential buyer.

Apparently some 20 year old Asian bloke who tried to buy Morecambe and is a shady bugger wants to buy them .. think Wigan can return to being a rugby town again!

But aren't these the same players that are on daft wages? Suspect they are more likely to try for championship clubs first.... Before signing in league 1 on the last day of the transfer window

You would have thought that Wigan would have learned from their fairly recent administration (when most of their assets were stripped bare) that paying unaffordable wages for players was crazy. And, if they have tied many of these into long term contracts then another administration / asset strip and another points deduction and relegation is on the cards. If we had still been in the Championship then we may have benefitted, but in our current position I think it unlikely.

They’re more likely to stay exactly where they are, knowing their fat wages are protected even in an administration

Most of them are the wrong side of 30 and signed their contracts two years ago … at that age, your value ain’t going up

Apparently the owner met with senior squad on Monday and told them wages would be paid by end of this week. So let’s see if they’re paid today ? Where have we heard that before? He tells them the same thing for the past 6 missed wage payments they’ve missed.

On news now states that Wigan HAVE been hit with a transfer embargo not for the new rule regarding tax but for non payment of payer/staffs wages. They can only have a maximum of 23 players They have 19 already under contract and two offered new deals so they can only loan 2 players OR 2 players out of contract( whis going to want to sign for them) without any guarantee of income as things currently stand ?

Danson Who owns a 25% stake at Wigan rugby apparently interested in buying them ? Also hmrc have issued Wigan with a wi ding up order to be heard on 26th July

Does that mean we can’t nick their players?
AFAIK they're allowed to sign free agents and loans subject to a salary cap and a maximum squad size, so any players that go out can be replaced, just not by good ones.

I mentioned on the other thread that they've got a couple of wide players who might be worth a look.
