Wintle recalled

Could see it coming really, I remember reading it wouldn't happen for a few weeks though. Definitely need some recruitment in the middle of the park now!

Knew it was gonna happen but still gutted. Going to be difficult to sign a replacement this window, doubt a lot of teams will be willing to sell/Loan with everything going on

we’ve got 2 weeks to get a new CM or get one of the existing ones fit and ready.
Otherwise it’ll be either Connelly or James

The problem we have is there is Wintle, Carey, Virtue and Stewart all 'out' and we aren't blessed with cover.

Bad news but hardly surprising, especially with many clubs apparently recalling loanees due to covid.
The management team will have seen this coming, hence Elliott Watt rumours (and probably others)

Yet another similarly with last season. A rival club lends us a player because we're not seen as a threat, and we end up doing better than the rival.

Just emphasises our bad luck in losing Ward, Stewart, Virtue and Carey all with long term injuries from central midfield. At least we have found out early, and no league game til the 15th.

Just been thinking about our other midfielders that are out:
Stewart - I have conceded that we will never see this man string enough appearances together, I'd view him like Wintle and attempt to replace him this window.
Virtue - ACL in March last year, typical recovery time is 9 months so hopefully we'd see him back soon as we've hit that mark.
Ward - Ruptured Achilles Tendon, typical recovery time 4 - 6 months. We've just hit 4 months since he got the injury, so again hopefully that'll mean he's on his way back sometime soon.

As others have mentioned, two weeks now till our next league game so I hope our business gets sorted nice and early. Hopefully the club were aware this was going to happen and have planned accordingly!

An attacking midfielder and holding midfielder needed ASAP and of real high quality....

This is a key signing, middle of thebpark makes all the difference from defending to setting up attacks.

If we find someone to link our strikers in more we'll improve.

The Wintle recall is probably the reason behind recalling Cameron Antwi.....a couple of weeks back training with teh group and ahve another look at him against Hartlepool

I expect Connolly will take his place until we get a better replacement in the window (with Antwi as back-up, as others have said).

Yeah, that sucks. The one player through the entire time has put in performance after performance. He was starting to properly love it here too. I reckon he feels gutted too. But if I was the Cardiff manager, I'd have done the same.
He'll just gave to go back and have a big row with Morison. Or just look really half arsed and moody in training. Stink the place out. 👍

Like Dale did at Crewe. 🤣

I'd find it inconceivable that we have not made a cash offer for Wintle and if that was rejected out of hand then other irons would be in the fire. If it is a case of negotiations then the recall is to bring those to a head- CC 'You either want him or you don't'.

I wonder what the player thinks?

Cardiff have had a loan player recalled by Wolves and we’ve paid the price. Shame, he was good for us but we’ll get someone else in. Trust in Critch.

Pretty sure it never used to be. Must be more recent?

Remember when we lost Shelvey back to Liverpool early a few years back?

I think the clause has always been in there, they don't usually get activated because the players are usually not part of the first team picture at their parent club, but sometimes you get a spate of injuries and that changes.

What is different is that you no longer get the short term 1 - 3 month loans that you used to.

I think clubs are going to have a tough time signing new players this window, clubs are going to call back pretty much anyone who might be on the fringe of the first team, possibly the situation will stabilise at the end of the month and there might be some movement then but that's far from certain.
