Your biggest sporting achievement?

I played for the Football league staff team at Wembley against the Wembley staff team , and I scored against the FA staff team at Bloomfield Rd at the Kop end with a left foot looping volley . I also broke my ankle playing at the old Den , again for the League staff team against Nationwide staff team who at the time were sponsoring the England team . Hope this helps .
I played for the Nationwide Staff team in a game against PNE at Myerscough in the 90’s. Seem to remember Brian Marwood playing on our side and Moyes playing for the PNE team? (I was invited to play as my girlfriend at the time worked for Nationwide)

I am a Fall fan.

I played for the Royal National Theatre CC for twenty years. We played at Eton around 2006 - 2008?

I picked up a couple of wickets too.

Do you think I'm making it up? I played at some of the best cricket ground in the south east.
Played against Milan CC in the Italian lakes, Racing Club Paris and Nice.
No, I didn’t think you were making it up at all! I was just interested and thanks for expanding. It never ceases to amaze me the varied and interesting things people on here have done in life. And of course The Fall and high culture were no strangers as your username gives a nod to (I vaguely remember a ballet collaboration of the same name?).

Playing cricket in the Italian lakes must have been magical.

Played on Turf Moor, Deepdale and Bloomers in police cup finals. Scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Bloomers over Blackburn including a nice overhead kick in the south. Gazette photographed one of the goals in the north which I had blown up for my office. Man of the match went to our right back for snuffing out their star left winger! Also won the Gerry Richardson Memorial Trophy for footballer of the year in the same era presented by his good wife.

First in the Welsh interschools, under 14, 100 yard Breast stroke championship in 1960/61, shortly before we moved to Blackpool.

Hogan Cup U16 final at Bloomers, couldn't get near Steve McCauley who played for Poulton, we lost 5-0, what a player he was.

Under 15 and 16 Athletics Champion at Arnold 63/4.

Played for the Blackpool & Fylde Saturday Comb rep side 1971.

Scored at Highbury ( Fleetwood!)

When I lived in Plymouth 1967/69, I played for Plymouth u15s schoolboys alongside a certain Trevor Francis,we lost 1-0 against Liverpool u15s or so we thought ,we found out that they played some over age in their team surprise surprise.

School senior 1500 metres champion, still got the certificate.
Was voted player of the season two years running by my team mates for the works team I used to play in.
Played as a beaten finalist in a few five a side and football finals.
The rest is pretty much a miserable tale of dismal failure over a lot of years.
Not much to show for forty years or so of futile struggle. I did enjoy some of it though.

A pretty low bar, played at 2 schools finals at Dumpdale (lost both). The only other sporting achievement of note, I was given out to both Botham (Liam, son of Beefy) and Flintoff when playing cricket against their respective schools. I'm still angry about the LBW against Freddie, I practically middled it on to my pad. 😡

Also played at Turf Moor in a couple of finals - lost both. Played for Burnley's Academy for a bit in my youth.

Scored in a Lancs Cup semi-final in which from 2-0 up we went on to lose 3-2, with a young Junior Hoillett running us absolutely ragged.

Not much but some good memories. I seem to recall someone on here had played in the Allsvenskan; the Swedish first division.

Played Cricket for a combined Lancashire schools team in Australia in 1991, we were U15's but played an U21 side containing Brendan Julian & Matthew Slater (Both played tests for Australia) and got battered! We were bowled out for a total of 38, i top scored with 20! All my runs came from edges either through or over the slips! I was batting an No 6 and was in for the 2nd ball of the 2nd over! Not a great start to the tour!

I also played against Andrew (Freddie Flintoff) in his 1st game of men's cricket, He was 12 and i was 14 in the match. I don't remember the match but the score card was published in the telegraph when England won the ashes in 2005! my dad still has the article in a scrap book at home. (I had scored over 70 centuries at various levels between the age of 12 & 34 before i gave up cricket).

Also Played Rugby League for the combined Armed forces side against Wigan, St Hellen's & London Broncos before i sustained a serious shoulder injury and had to retire from rugby.

Finished 4th in the Under 15 age group Welsh qualifiers in Golf in around 2000, 1 shot off qualifying for the Great Britain age group championships. Still remember the desperate feeing of finding out I was so close

Never been beaten as a cricket captain.

Scored a perfect hattrick at Uni. (Scored 4)

Broke discus record by yards in inter-schools games at Stanley Park. Sadly that was in practice, I bombed in the event.

Goal keeper of the year in The Sunday Alliance. Still hold the record for the least amount of goals put past a keeper for a season when I played for The Rammy Arms. 14 goals conceded was not too shabby.
I shinned a 30 yard volley playing for Blackpool Community coaching team against Carlisle United community coaches at Squires gate. I did go for goal but it was Total fluke.

Played cricket for a men's team when I was 10 and ran the last batsman out to win the match. One of our bowlers took 9-13 in that match so I stopped a potential 10 for.

At university I strode out and scored 10 off my first 2 balls to win the match. Unfortunately I hadn't realised that my batting partner was on 99 not out! I had to buy the ale as a punishment.

What a terrific thread and some real achievements in our fan base.

It reminds me of a time when I was invited to be part of a presentation about the supply chain opportunities for the 2012 Olympics as I'd just successfully won a contract for my charity to deliver an NHS contract (which was pretty rare back then)

Anyway, I rock up in Middlesbrough I think, and there's a full on media scrum, loads of press, hundreds of people and I get introduced to the other panellists; one was this fella, maybe 6' 7" - what do you do? I'm an Olympic Ambassador and won a gold medal at the Sydney games in one of the rowing events - very nice. The other, Chief Executive of One Northeast or one of the regional development agencies.

Introductions over; up steps Mr Olymipan, talks about the efforts he had put in the sacrifices etc etc. To finish, he puts his race on and decides to hand round his gold medal. Watching the race, it was pretty tight and everyone's adrenaline is pumping (even though we know he wins and we're looking at his medal!!) as they cross the finish line, cheers go up and a huge round of applause.

It was at this point, I though, Christ, I'm up next, how the hell do you follow that????????

"I've been thinking about how you follow an Olympic Gold Medalist in a speech......

pause for comedic timing

......I once came 4th in the sack race!"

The joke went down really well, allowed me to settle in to the presentation.

I was pretty poor at sports, could throw a discuss and wasn't bad at basketball, but overall, nothing of any note.

Despite not being a 'runner', (as in 'fun', not 'blade'.....), I took part in a local 10k run, with the route taking in our lovely prom.
Against all the odds, I finished and got a nice medal....! So that is probably my greatest sporting achievement.

The one thing that took the 'shine' off my success was the fact I was overtaken around the half way point by a bloke wearing a 'Dalek' costume!! 🤣

Ah well......!!

Getting in the table tennis team at high school. Winning the teacher's race two years running, and winning the dad's and male teacher race at sports day. I feel my 'glory days' are behind me now at 47, and the trophy cabinet will remain empty. Beating a few lads and scoring during football training during lunchtime now my only sporting goals. They're 10 and 11 year olds, so can still manage this 😁

Played in a cup final at bloomfield road, took up refereeing after I finished playing, and refereed pool reserves, at bloomfield road, Billy Ayre was the manager, he came in the changing room after the game and had a good chat about pool, great guy

I once finished 4th in our schools cross country event and that meant I qualified for the Wiltshire annual cross country event. When I turned up, they told my PE teacher that actually only 3 qualified from each school rather than 4th and the 4th placed runner, can run for fun or watch on the sides.

The teacher wasn't impressed when he saw me watching the start from a nearby school building with my feet up drinking a cup of tea.

In all seriousness I play quite a bit of Rugby and making my first team debut against top of the league who had won 12 out of 12 and winning and playing well for 20 minutes before breaking my nose was a highlight. Albeit a short highlight.

I represented North Yorkshire schools at football until under 18 level.
Played for North Yorkshire schools basketball at under 15 and 16 level too.
I represented North Yorkshire schools in the 100m after running 11.41 seconds at 16 years old in an inter school athletic tournament.

Played a few Hockey matches for Lancashire B. Scored a cracking goal on my debut.
Scored a brilliant one yard tap in for Devonshire Road School to secure a draw in the local derby against St Kentigans.
Finished 193 out of over 500,000 in the Daily Telegraph Fantasy Football.

What a cracking thread!👍

A few snippets, some are possibly loose achievements in my own head...😱

Cricket 1973 - shook hands with Frank Hayes on the Oval pitch, congratulating him on reaching a ton on his England debut against the West Indies🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Football 1974 - drinking in the old supporters club after a game, bought my copy of 'The Green' and got it signed by The King of Bloomfield Road... "To Gaz, from one King to another, Alan Suddick"🧡

Football 1982 - scored a goal at Highbury Stadium, a superb volley from a yard out that nearly broke the onion bag, but we lost 5-2🤪

Snooker 1985 - beat Bill Werbeniuk 59-32 (10 reds on a half-size table), bought him a pint of lager 'coz he was the loser, great bloke was 'Big Bill'

Cricket 1985 - scored my first ton 127no against Preston CC in the Palace Shield🌞

Those were the days my friend, we took the Stretford End!🍻🧡

Represented GB in swimming against Holland & West Germany 1975 in Holland. Was Sharon Davies first International too, sadly my first & last, but still proud.

(Hengello Holland Aug 2/3rd 1975)

We broke the 4 x 100m Free under 16 GB record, which I swam the anchor leg.
I did the 200IM - 2m.16s
100m Free - 57.5s

Hogan Cup U16 final at Bloomers, couldn't get near Steve McCauley who played for Poulton, we lost 5-0, what a player he was.
We must be the same age, as I played against Macauley from the age of 10 and he was head and shoulders above any one of our age.
I also never scored against Poulton throughout the years, even in Under 12's age group (1980) where I believe I held the record for most goals scored (63 - playing for FC Rangers) in a season, for at least 30 years.

As a Yoof played football & Rugby for the Blackpool Town teams…
Played for Blackpool rep team along side Thommo…John Butler…Steve Walsh..beat Bolton in Lancs final at Burnden park.
Played on Bloomfield rd loads of times and other grounds.
Progressed to Playing youth and then “A” team games for BFC.. no further..
Changed ball shape and went to Swinton for a season playing Rugby league…bad injury…slipped away into obscurity….end of 🤪

When did you play at Millennium?
I would say about about 14 & 16 years ago , when I was a financial adviser & gave some business to Nationwide , who at the time was sponsors of EFL.
I chopped a few down & I remember the Nationwide manager who invited me , reminding me it was supposed to be a friendly 😂
