Blackpool v Peterborough Official Matchday Thread 18.12.21

Well done Josh Bowler, was having a stinker first 15 but his head didn’t drop and it came good for him.

Anderson and Madine superb, good for Jerry to be back in the goals.

Not our best performance, but did enough. Peterborough looked good going forward, but they were atrocious defensively, you can see why they are shipping lots of goals. Bowler gets two assists but didnt think he had a good game, he wasted the ball so often, on a better day we may have had seven against this lot. the pass for thier goal was superb, the kid scored looks quite tasty as well, all over th pitch two good feet, skillful, gave james in partcular a horrid time.

marv and husband all had excellent games, james wasnt bad got forward well put in some decent crosses. it was better with gabriel on the right, dont think he had one of his best games though. Madine bossed the posh defence, but we dont quite have the understanding going forward yet between the forward players. Keshi was in fine form again, thought jerry looked hungry.

the posh defence, had been bullied By madine and had had Lavery buzzing around like a randy tterrier for 70 mins or so, then we bring on a hungry Jerry and a clever carey, its not really what you want to see for the last twenty mins.

fantastic save by Grimmy at the end.

good day - needed it

just back. don't think we deserved the win but who cares. Awful second half performance from us. We had a purple patchjust before our goal for about ten minutes or so but once their player went down injured it disrupted all the impetus we had. Bowler had a night mare start but came good and Keshi had a great start but once again some woeful passing from him. Madine won plenty in the air but was knackered by the time he came off and Lavery couldn't get going really.

Anyway the rots stopped.

Sorry Halifax that was supposed to be replying to Hertford. The guy is comedy gold with his rants about players who end up as heroes of the day. 🤣🤣🤣

Step forward Josh Bowler, 2 assists. 😎

I'm guilty on here 2. Hindsight is smashing but Bowler fcuked everything he did up today bar the two assists. You can only comment upon what's in front of you at the time and some of us wear our hearts on our sleeves and only have a rant because we want to win. It's why we have a match day chat.

It's easy to come on here after the event being smug.

These boys are still young as owt, the club is at the perfect level for their development right now and they all love each other and playing in tangerine. Sonny's 19 ffs. We will have bad runs, but so long as we keep picking up points and stay up we'll definitely just keep improving. It's absolutely mad how bright the future is.

Just back, too. Jerry will be revitalised after that. The crowd serenaded him throughout his cameo appearance and poacher's goal. He needed that.

The team all hugged Sony Carey for his first goal. The team spirit is still flaming.

We needed that win. The fightback starts from here. Come on you Pool!

Bar the two assists? Give some credit when it’s due FFS.

Yep to sum it up played OK in a few spells but poor on the ball at times.

Peterborough had 1 good created chance and scored it, slack defending.

We could have done much better throughout but produced a few moments of quality.

Few annoyances spotted like Bowler playing inside rather than hugging the touchline, don't get that he's best running at players.

But we haven't scored for ages and got 3 today.

Good win to put us well clear again and bring a bit of confidence back.

👍

Good job you're not the coach, you'd have subbed him! 🤣🤣🤣
Actually I said Dougall and Lavery for Carey & Yates never said anything about taking Bowler off. I have always said he is great at taking on and beating players but his distribution has been shocking, today he assisted 2 of the 3 goals and had a really good game, but he is still very wasteful. If he can improve we will have a great player on our hands.

Like Mac said, we wear our hearts on our sleeves when we comment during our game and it's easy to come on here when the game is finished and pick a few comments to pieces. I hate us losing and the fact we have won today makes my night much sweeter.

Madine was immense today but Lavery struggled alongside him. I think Yates & Madine may be the best partnership up front. I still don't like inverted wingers but we were better today because Gabriel and James supported well and got crosses in, Gabriel is our best option as right back for sure.

Peterborough are not a great side, had we been playing a decent team today we may well have come away with nothing, so let's enjoy but keep our feet on the ground.

We certainly didn't miss Dale today.

one other question for those watching in on tv. Thought for their goal he was just offside. Anyone confirm. Was right in line with it and thought he'd just gone a fraction too early or the ball was slightly delayed putting him thru but in real time he looked just offside.

After watching the 3 previous defeats I decided to stay away today, guess I made the right call there then 😉
I can't get up until the end of January but my son was going though he decided to pull out due to some matches being cancelled because of Covid, 60 quid train fare is a lot to he thought, he was also going to stay over to attend a gig. He's kicking himself now.

Definitely struggling in midfield and have been for some time, I know Dougall and Wintle are good players but we seem to be swamped in midfield week in week out. Do not profess to have an answer
We were getting swamped again 2nd half. Critch had a couple of quid each way by bringing on Carey, which was just enough to wrestle back control without being too defensive.

However, had we started with Jerry and Madine I think we’d have been more comfortable today. They play well together, get close, clever touches and movement. Lavery never got near enough to Madine to make that partnership work. Madine was banging his fists in the ground first half, won the knock down and Lavery on the other side of the box.

Yates and Madine at Huddersfield please.

Good post, and good point about the nature of the subs.

I think it's because we are attempting to create width, with Bowler and Anderson often hugging the touchline, and James and Gabriel tending to run in tandem with them. This tactic only works if the crossing is timely and accurate. Today, it was. Most of the season, it has been poor. This facet of our game may decide our season, because Bowler is clearly capable of getting to the byeline, or cutting inside and creating opportunites, even on a bad day.

Thought they had plenty of the ball and players that looked good in possession. But they actually created next to nothing, bar the goal and a fabulous save from Grimshaw at the end.
Ekpiteta and Husband had Clarke- Harris in their pocket, Dembele looked good, but mostly outside the box.
We are a better side at with Gabriel in it, certainly going forward.
We'll play a lot better than that in the games to come, but it was a big 3 points today. Onwards and upwards.

Confident when I saw the starting 11 that we would win today. Need NC to name a virtually unchanged line up for next match, however I’d swap Lavery for Yates.Try and build some consistency

Good post Grumps, lifted the whole team needed that 👍

I was at Bloomfield but have watched goal on SKY since and he looked onside to me 20s

Grimmy didn't know it was offside when he pulled of that stupendous save. He's a keeper in both senses of the word. I loved it today. Well, at least the last fifteen minutes. Crisis? What Crisis? 🏝️ 👍

Genuinely the biggest result of the season so far, defeat would have pulled us right back down into the relegation scrap, but victory has now put us 11 points clear and we can start to look up again. Plus we stop the rot right before the busy period. Class.

Keshi, Bowler, Yates, and Carey have to be our front 4 from now on.
No.
You need Gary Goals starting and play Lavery/Yates 60/30.

See it on Quest. Definitely Onside.
