Been watching King of Tulsa and Yellowstone after reading reviews on here and elsewhere, but imo, neither comes close to the likes of Ozarks and Breaking Bad.
I’ve watched all episodes of series one of King of Tulsa, and it’s ok, but not brilliant. Stallone arrives on the outskirts of Tulsa and finds this legalised cannabis store making hundreds of thousands with seemingly only two customers. There’s the usual violence associated with mafia genre and every cop is corrupt, but long periods of boring conversations about his ex wife and daughter; I just fast forwarded through those. Another series is being made, I’m hoping something better comes along.
I’ve finished four episodes of series one of Yellowstone and I’m still not sure what it’s all about, there‘s a rich Indian who wants all the valley back for the indigenous population and a property development company who want to build a town there. Kev, who owns everything isn’t having it. Apart from that, there’s lots of shots of horses, horses being trained and cattle and scenery, presumably for the benefit of the Montana tourist board.
it starts in an office in I think New York, where a high level meeting between two stock market listed companies are arguing about a takeover, in walks the boss of one, a tough, feisty woman, who gets it done in a couple of minutes. She turns out to be Kev’s daughter and promptly abandons the business world, returns to the farm and turns into an unhinged, alcohol slag.
Her younger brother is a principled cowboy who married a principled Indian and lives on the reservation. His principles disappear as he starts killing people, burning their bodies and burying them.
Then you’ve got Kev’s enforcer, who beats up a young guy, abducts him to the farm, beats him up again, brands him, and ties him to a horse for a day. I can’t for the life of me figure out what he’s got to do with the story and why he stays.
Kev’s enforcer then brutally kills a coroner and burns the entire morgue to the ground with seemingly no come back.
Kev’s enforcer then waits outside a jail, and persuades an inmate being released to get in his truck and takes him to the farm, where the inmate agrees to be branded. Why they’re being branded has escaped me and why anyone in their right mind would agree is beyond me.
Lots of people kill other people, which seems perfectly normal as nobody gets arrested and again, the police are all corrupt.
I’ll keep watching in the hope that the story becomes clearer, but so far, I’m not waiting excitedly to watch the next episode.
