Derby County v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 08.08.23

Now there's a fun challenge! How about 2014, Chopra and Eccleston, shortly after Paul Ince's sacking and in the middle of a three month winless run?

Southampton there for the taking ?

Saints make four changes today; two of those are debuts for their new January signings. Then they have us in 4 days, Newcastle again 3 days later, and back to fighting for survival 4 days after that. I think we'll be playing our best against the weakest side they could reasonably start.

BBC INTERVIEW: Blackpool head coach Mick McCarthy.

Absolutely. I remember always being excited to listen to Ollie's pre-match interview on the old website. Except for a brief period with Ince, there hasn't been a manger since who I actually wanted to hear interviewed, until now. It's a nice feeling, and gives us some optimism.

ANOTHER EVERTON: DIRECTORS CAN'T RUN A CLUB FOR TOFFEE

A better Everton analogy would be when they brought in Allardyce halfway through the season to keep them up, which he did (and then some). Difference here is that Everton pretended like it would maybe be a long term appointment, whereas BFC have given McCarthy a short term contract with the...

So, who is the next victim?

I'll bite... who's the last player that was bullied out of the club?

I Know Why He Was Sacked Today...

Fully agree on Nixon, though this time his claim that it was done weeks ago seems to directly contradict The Athletic's claim that we made an approach for Ramsay and were turned down. Unless that also happened weeks ago 🙄

    Mick McCarthy

Seems strange to go after Eric Ramsay, get turned down, and then have McCarthy as choice #2. Doesn't take a whole lot of money to move the betting odds when there isn't much interest or information.

    Evatt

I don't see it happening either, but to be fair there's a better chance we stay up than Bolton get promoted. Right now they're 11 points off automatic, and we're 3 points off safety.

I believe Chizzy announced early in the game that Middlesborough were already down a goal to Blackpool. :)

    Bowler's farewell

And fans will turn on their favorite player after two bad matches. Bowler's farewell statement is something we almost never see, that's why it's so well appreciated.

    Blackpool v Barrow Lowlights

16 shots, 5 on target, 1.5 xG. Call it bad luck or poor finishing, but we created chances.

    Measured progess?

Are we gonna come up against any sides in the Championship who play the way Barrow played last night? Our problem was not being able to break down and finish against a team who were playing for the draw. Disappointing to lose, and maybe the fact that this was a different kind of match than...

From 'lack of signings = disaster' to 'disrupting a settled side = disaster'

Can't help but notice that the predominant types of criticism we're reading on here these days is directed at exactly what the critics were demanding a month ago. Right now the doom and gloom story is 'putting all these new players in has disrupted our settled side'. A month ago it was 'this...

    Barrow available on TV ?

Be interesting to know how much the club makes from selling streams. I just paid for my season-long video access. It's not cheap but I'm happy to pay it; if they had a one-off video pass for the League Cup I'd buy it. Easy for me to say though; I live in a different country. Accepting as...

How would you describe Sadlers ownership so far?

We got promoted two years after he bought us. And we were a dumpster fire of a club when he bought us. Don't think many of us would have bet on promotion followed by a comfortable first year up back in the summer of 2019.

    Simon and Ben on transfers.

This line from Scrafton was pretty rich: "But the club has also missed out on some targets, namely Colby Bishop, Ellis Simms and more recently Cameron Brannagan – with all three scenarios playing out in public." Yeah, and who is responsible for these being played out in public? Nice use of...

    Rhys Williams

Seems really good positionally; got in front of a lot of crosses. I'm feeling good about our defense.
