Best 5 Sunday Alliance players you played with

Graeme Holden
Andy Lyons
Mick Cleary
Pete Morrell
Wayne Hughes
Was Pete Morrell ex Wigan trainee? Might have played with him for a few months for The Royal Bank of Scotland late 80s he was excellent think he was playing for us for a laugh as we were pretty bad.

My dad used to tell me about how good Kingsfield were. My uncle played for Wrea Green who were apparently quite good but the way he made Kingsfield sound they were a level above everyone

no, not true really. What Kingsfield had was a lot of young players out of junior football who started mens football with them and then went on to play for better teams.

Wasn’t Kingsfield it was king Edward he spoke about

Steve Hewitt - I played with him at Kingsfield late 80's, possibly towards end of his career? Always a good laugh on a night out.
Frank Whatmough - Played against him a few times. Once put me in the ditch at the far end of Common Edge 😡 after I nut megged him😁
Is this the same one that now lives in Spain ?

Thats the fella ... Went to Monty.. All well above my level by the way ;-)
Wils (Dave Wilson) was one of my best mates at school. He’ll be chuffed that he got a mention! Played loads with him,Ian Hewitt and a bit with Diggle & Lyons.
Hewitt was absolute class.A regular in BFC reserves at 15 but we reckon he never had real a passion for the game despite being so good.

I founded Kingsfield.

So so many good players, too many to mention to pick five. The only one I'll mention is as a five side play Paul Maguire was phenomenal.
I think you will find that I actually founded Kingsfield & named the team “Kingsfield “ , you came along a few months later ……but I will have words with you at the next home match in K block !

you can only have 25% of the credit.;)

Micky Campbell (should have made it as a pro)
Chris Cairns (ditto)
Shaun Bennett (could do things with the ball that pros would love to)
Two great goalies Dean Livesey and Martyn Ward
Brent Smith

Tough one, best five who I’ve managed.

Steve Trainor
Stuart Diggle
Phil Thompson
Wayne Hughes
Kev Curtis

There are so many other good ones who could make this list but those five would be right up there.
Only played against Wayne Hughes once when he played for Bloomfield Vets. He must have been around 50 and was squaring up to one of the kids on our team saying he'd never been sent off in his career (which somehow I doubt !!). 60 seconds later he took an audacious dive in the box in front of me which resulted in me laughing at him. Ref told him to get up. So he got up and tried to headbutt me and got sent off! If that was his first time, then every credit.

And a mention to Gary Jones of Burn Naze. (in the Fylde Coast Sunday League). The only player we ever organised team tactics around.

I don't know you pal but I'll take a wild guess you live on the other side of the Shard Bridge.🤔

I'm not familiar with Goulding but the others are a good over Wyre list though.

Unusual behavour from Wayne, the only thing he ever headed playing for Mammas was the football and he could make that thing talk with his feet, a very talented footballer who loved the social side of the game as much as anyone I knew. We called him Wayne Booze😜

Are you Roy?
I remember Roy Atkinson knocking on my door in 1978 unannounced and convincing me to sign for Kingsfield. I was 16 and my mum had to sign a form. I remember making my debut on Lawsons road against the Welcome Inn and scoring in a 3-1 win. Sky blue kit I think. A team of quick young lads with a few older heads. Bumped into Roy at a pool game a few weeks ago.

Paul Bailey @ Squires Gate
John White @ The Dunes
Andy Farmer @ Royal Hotel
Tony Crompton @ The Winmarith
Frank Whatmough @ The Royal Hotel and The Boars Head

Didn't Neil Mitchell get sent off in that game too?

Yeah he was. Also was on the verge of signing from Crewe. Pete and Mick Cleary we’re unplayable as a partnership for the grand.

I remember it well.
You, Pete & Steve Mc basically played keep ball down the left hand side, then when you got bored you would let everyone else join in, usually with a beautifully weighted through ball

What happened to Levi McPhee? Recall he did time for manslaughter then played for a Fleetwood team, maybe Highbury?

McBride, Robson , the Beech brothers I loved playing against them ! At the end of the game anyway. I always declined a drink with them in the Cutty Sark

Anyone who was as good as Bryan Robson at West Brom (but could still drink him under the table) must have been a character 😉
