Birmingham v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 27.11.21

Surprised at Wintle, although against WBA he gave the ball away very carelessly twice resulting in very good chances for them. Not saying he necessarily deserves to be dropped but maybe Critchley just thinks he needs a rest. Even more surprised at Gabriel who has been playing well. Not totally shocked that Lavery and Bowler are on the bench - Bowler had a 'mare on Tues, and Lavery struggled to get in the game I thought.

Let's see what they can do. All good players in that 11.

And we’ve a week until the next game, so plenty of time for recovery. Just don’t get this at all. As we say, in critch we trust…. For now.

I'm not sure what has gone on with Connelly, whether there has been a bust up with NC or he's massively started to impress on the training ground? But for me, unless Wintle is injured (and I'm assuming he's not as he's on the bench) I can't see what Wintle has done to get dropped to the bench as he's played great alongside Dougall, and what Connelly has done to suddenly be part of the defensive midfield rotation after spending most of the season out of the picture?

Anyway, let's see how this new combination works - in Critch we trust!

I would never ever of guessed Connolly and Dale that's for sure. Looks like we want to stop them scoring and then change it with 25 minutes to go? He never fails to surprise, but he likes to get all the squad involved.

Obviously Keshi will be playing in the No.10 role today which I always thought was his strongest position.
Dale needs to take on the "tricky" winger role and Demi could do with finding his pre-season goal scoring boots.
Hubby could end up with a few more stitches tonight after his battle against Deeney.

See how the players he has brought in perform, a lot of the squad are similar in ability, no billy big Bollux.
Wintle and Gabriel have been excellent recently but I quite like the fact that few players are certain of their place.

I`m especially surprised that Lavery, who has shown he is a goal scorer before his injury and now surely needs time on the pitchto get back to his best, is not being given that opportunity. Especially when we`re so short of goals.

A lack of pace up front always worries me but there’s enough pace in the team if they can get up to support Gaz and break Birmingham’s back line. Good options off the bench, interested to see how this one pans out.

Still no sign of Keogh, Maxwell or Stewart, they must be making sure they really are fully fit before risking them, which is a good thing.

On reflection this looks like a team picked for the weather conditions. It looks specifically designed not to fanny around with it at the back, and to have a big target man and some speed to chase it up top?

Let's hope there is none of that backpassing again 🤨

Likes to keep his aces in the pack until needed. He has his own rhythms does Critch. Let todays ride commence.

There is little point in 2nd guessing Critch. Hopefully it is a selection based on keeping the players fresh and as well as the right team to get a good result. 👍🏼
