Blackpool v Bournemouth Official Matchday Thread 12.02.21

`forget the result, that was a great Pool performance and we deserved to win that. Ref was shocking, we need to score more goals, should have been 4 up. I'm gutted but only at how undeserved it was, we were the better side and will come back stronger.
I’m sure you’re right. But that’s still a complete and absolute pisser. Not blaming anyone. We played very well indeed.

But I’m not a happy bunny.

You’ve got to take your chances against the big clubs otherwise a ref will do everything they can to tip the balance back towards the big team. We can’t say we didn’t have the opportunities to put it away.

The richer the club the more the refs seem biased towards. Most clubs are richer than us in this division hence the more unfair decisions against us.

It would be nice for once for us to have a totally neutral referee.

This paranoia about refs is nonsense. Yes the ref was very poor today and favoured them. In one of the recent games we probably got the run of the green with the ref, but we never notice. I don't think they favour the big clubs - and every fan in the main thinks the ref is against them. Who'd be a fuckin ref too? It's just traditional to moan about the ref I guess - just my opinion.

Really disappointed with the result, but what a performance.

We remain a work in progress and we are improving. We will get there.
Agree 100% but I believe we also got sucked into the occasion in the last 10 minutes….chasing the ball, losing shape, not closing down and beaten at the near post. But what an over reaction from their bench, management at the end….twats

Can’t blame the Ref for Bowler not scoring a second because he side footed it right at the keeper at perfect save height or that Madine gave their keeper any chance from his header (phenomenal save btw)…..and not sure how the Ref scored their two goals.

I just don’t buy all this “Ref favours the big teams” line…. It was Bournemouth not Liverpool ffs

It was an absolute kick in the balls for sure but ..

1) we played very very well and sometimes you just don’t get what you deserve…no need to get all “hatey” about it

2) we ain’t gonna get relegated and ain’t gonna get in play offs so we don’t have to be overly anguished at the odd individual “unfair” result

3) it’s better that we can be pissed off about playing very well and losing (unfairly) than just lamenting a terrible performance and a drubbing 0-4 against a team that has spent well over a hundred million pounds on its squad

So go easy lads and celebrate a grand performance rather than let it ruin your evenings

The referee was woeful.

He was absolutely desperate to give them every single decision he could. Only surprise was that he didn’t give them another penalty in the second half

Best summary of the afternoon .

I thought they had a clear penalty in second half and thought at the time, he hasn’t given that because he’s already given them one

The referee, Dean Whitestone, officiated in our win against Hull City on New Year’s Day. He even gave us a penalty which Madine scored for our win. The matchday thread makes no mention of him being biased against us.
But then again, he’s from Northampton and is a copper in the Metropolitan police, so maybe he dislikes all “northern monkeys” equally. 🤨

Cliche but I'd rather us got smashed today as that was heartbreaking. Such a shame not to get at least a point out of that match.

What is worthy of note is how far we've come as a team. Gave Bournemouth who will have players that cost more than our entire squad a bloody game for large parts, it's hard to take now but in context we should be getting nowhere near teams like Fulham and Bournemouth and we're matching them.

Absolute wonder saves from their keeper prevented us adding two more, if Hamilton's shot was an inch or two lower we're two up. Fine margins separating 3 points from that game.

I'm gonna repeat all that over and over to get myself to sleep tonight anyway. Roll on Cardiff to set things right!

Their keeper was man of the match. I don't blame the ref. Once they got the equaliser they smelt blood. Think you have to give them a little credit as they reshuffled a couple of times and I thought they looked dangerous although hardly tested Grimmers. I'm gutted at result but thought it showed we can compete with the moneybags teams in this league. Up the pool.

i like that we have some balanced honest assessment, it`s refreshing .Time and again you read on here how bad and biased or even corrupt in favouring the opposition the ref has been.. I take so many posts on here with a large pinch of salt.
Most fans of small clubs think Refs are deliberately against them for some reason

Most fans of Big Clubs think exactly the same thing

Fact

Coming late to the thread but I will say that Bournemouth have very quick thinking ball players. Don't get me wrong, I think we could have won it. The officials were poor. We could have had a few and, on the whole, defended well. BUT...against a team like Bournemouth, it only needs a couple of errors and they'll punish you.

That’s a rather mature way of looking at it blood ! 😜

He's in the Met Police?

That says it all then. If he's marking Pratson's questionnaire, he definitely won't give HIM a penalty

Well gutted superb performance.
We are not going up or down so the only positive is see how good fringe players are.
Thorniley already proving good enough to earn a new contract
See what Robson can do with a run in the side.
Casey also will get some game time (so whole squad have been used now)
Kirk, Dale and Beesley should also play regularly between now and end of the season
Not sure Connolly is a fringe player anymore

We were unlucky not to have scored a couple more goals from the chances we created. Bowler’s right footed shot lacked power, CJ’s shot (heading for the top corner) and the Gaz Madine Header werecthw best of some great attacking play (By the way Gary Madine was immense today and IMO a contender for MOM).

We’d have benefitted from Keogh’s experience and losing big Marc was a blow as their pace and ability in attack would give the best defences an issue.

An entertaining game and a very good performance AND we looked threatening from our set pieces…We’re showing we are capable of competing with the better sides, but we need to start closing games out … finishing off opposition and maybe not inviting so much pressure….

We’re great out of possession, the press works well and we pick up the misplaced passes and look threatening, but we also need to add some solid possession football to our game to take the sting out of sides….

You look at Teams like the knobbers and they are shit by comparison to us, but they do seem to have that knack of sneaking draws and getting those late results (the ones that we seem to be on the wrong end of)….

The Ref didn’t have a great game and I think it frustrated / disrupted our rhythm, more than anything else.

Very good performance against a team who man for man on paper are better than ours.

This is going to be a consolidation year for us and we need to start focusing on next season.

Cressida has heard about him now.

He's on traffic duty next week. He'll probably direct everyone to Bournemouth.

I see some daft nobbers are laughing now about how many posts we have on our match threads as a gauge to being in their shadow.

The thick idiot doesn't realise we don't post all under 1 thread like they do and actually the real measure of the forum size is users online. At least one sensible nobber points out we post under many more threads.

We pretty much always have more than them online.

Avftt is usually much busier than pne online.

This just before, despite them winning.

Avftt is much younger and already bigger than pne online. Daft bastards.

The numbers are usually even larger in our favour.

Weird thing to brag about when it's actually in our favour 😂🤦‍♂️

You always get more posts for away matches because most people are at the game for home matches.

When the dust settles we will realise what a good side we have and take the positives from it.Play like that every week and we will continue to rise.

When you look at the disparity in budgets accross this division you take satisfaction from knowing that we have the better tools and model for progressing a football club.

The difference between the 2 teams as regards the result today was not the ref or money it was simply rub of the green and better finishing in key moments.

All that aside we have a hell of a lot to look forward to not least a growing group of players who most in this division would love to have and likewise the manager.

Onwards

Yes obviously, but I've seen some bragging before that their match threads have much more posts for a home game too, but they only post under 1 thread 🙄😂

As said people online is the best gauge of online fanbase and ours is almost always more. Even just now despite them winning and the feelgood factor.

We have a lot of fans spread throughout the country etc, funny how we have more online, more Instagram and twitter followers, YouTube subs and views etc.
