Blackpool v Bournemouth Official Matchday Thread 12.02.21

Dean Whitestone is the ref.
Just had him once this season when we beat Hull.
Will happily settle for the same result.

We got absolutely mullered by Bournemouth on their last visit here. One of lowest points (result/performance based) in my lifetime.
Tough game. Dougall is going to have put Billing in his pocket. Defensively our full backs are going to have to stop the supply into Solanke.
We will get at them offensively.
Could be a high scorer……

Last six matches we are but a point apart with Bournemouth on 12 and Pool on 11.

Goal count for them is 10 5 and Pool 8 5.They have lost recently to both Luton and Hull alongside Boreham Wood in the FA Cup.

Given Pool's record this season against the top clubs and current form I would fancy us to take this either 2-1 or 3-2.

I just think that since the turn of the year we now carry a multiple goal threat and we have the ability to open up sides from both sides of the pitch which I'm sure is the reason Madine has hit a rich vein of goalscoring form.

With Bowler and Hamilton as chief distractors for opposition defenders space in the centre is easier to come by.

Nothing to fear everything to play for and the pressure is on them which always suits us.

In a nutshell we can just go for it both countering or with the brakes off.

Two bob outfit - or at least they should be. What the fuck happened? Doesn't heritage count for anything anymore?
They should doff their caps to our pedigree.
Get at 'em - Bowler is key. Three solid midfielders. Give them no time on the ball.
Big Gaz to smash 'em early - Shayne to come on and give 'em hell on 60 mins.
What could possibly go wrong?

Doesn’t seem five minutes ago, that I was regularly dropping a few quid into a bucket on match days at Bournemouth. They were fighting to stay afloat as a club at the time. Twice in administration, before their Russian ‘saviour’ came along. I live in Southampton and occasionally watched the odd match down there. Since acquiring ‘bigger money’, I’ve observed an air of arrogance among the younger fan base, that isn’t as evident among the older fans - who I expect, are thankful the late 90’s and early 2000’s are behind them. Anyway, enough of that. We owe them a good hiding, following that 1-6 debacle of seven years ago.

Can’t see us thrashing them though. It’s going to be tight. I’m going 2-1 Pool

Bournemouth signed Sirike Dembele, Kieffer Moore, Todd Cantwell and Nat Phillips in January to add to an already strong squad. They should have more than enough to take the points in theory. But we are a hard nut to crack and I'll go for a score draw. 1-1 maybe

The last time they played here 5 days before Xmas 2014 they gave us a 6-1 tubbing which was my last game and the start of the boycott years for me, tomorrow will be massively different and l can see us winning 2-1 with Big Gaz scoring the 1st goal!

You've reminded me of Bournemouth winning 3-1 here just after Hendroid was sacked (2005?). It showed how far we'd sunk.

It was a filthy night, the pitch was a quagmire, we were still playing hoofball and Bournemouth under O'Driscoll were a good footballing side.
To use a McMahonism, they passed us to death despite the conditions.
One of the games when I've applauded the opposition off.

If Dougall plays. He's looked knackered over the last two.

Need to replicate the 2nd half against them early in the season. Nothing to fear if we adopt same approach. Ideally without a 2-goal deficit this time.

With the amount of rain due in the hours leading up to kick off, it will be a very tricky surface which will undoubtedly cut up as the match progresses. Hopefully this will help us and disrupt Bournemouth- 2-1 Pool

Why do there seem so many tough games in this division? Nature of The Championship I suppose. Looks like Bournemouth have spent massively to gain promotion back to the Premier league, after all they do have the parachute payments, surely that should have just been trousered by their owners? Never realised it could be used to strengthen the squad, very strange!

I feel a bit negative about this one, can't help but think we are due a defeat 😕 they seemed to bounce back after their cup exit and will want to keep that momentum. It could be a tough day at the office this one although we do tend to play better against the better sides.
Any sort of win would be fantastic and a little unexpected, a draw would be fine and even a defeat would not be the end of the world although the message board would melt 😉
I just hope we give it a right go and if we do lose it's not by sitting back a trying to defend from the off.

I FANCY US TODAY IF WE PLAY LIKE WE DID AGAINST BRISTOL CITY ,THIS ONES GOT GOALS IN IT SO 2-1 ,BUT WOULD TAKE A DRAW 2-2,HOPE LAVERY STARTS .

Lets hope that AFC Bournemouth arrived here yesterday and enjoyed a good Friday
night out on the town enjoying all the entertainments the town has to offer.

one of the tougher games, even though they are all tough. Bournemouth for me are another free scoring forward thinking team and if they click it's gonna be a very tough game. But they do allow the opposition to play too so I expect us to get chances. They'll create more than us but it's a case of who takes their chances. Even though we can be quite tight at the back I do expect there to be plenty of goals in the game.

Have they still got plans for a new (bigger) stadium? 2nd in the league and not selling out. Odd?

i think there is enough in our side to cause them a lot of problems - we dominated them in the second half at their place and at that point we were still a bit new born calf in the championship. Don't know what effect their new signings will have made, but we have definately got better since the game at their place, even with all the injuries we have there is solidity through the squad. Like Fulham i think they are a team who play when the opposition lets them play, ie, when they stand off and defend. we should get into them and as the master says, lets just be us.

We look more confident in front of goal recently, and are making better decsions (but still a way to go in improving), like others have said i can see goals today, might be one of those games where we just click for 40 minutes or so.

I couldn't possibly condone it 😉, but I can see a scenario where the Goal Machine practices some classic shithousery on former knobber and long term red/yellow card collector Ben Pearson.

Although Dale had the goal assist midweek I’m hoping that CJ is recalled to the starting 11 to give us width and pace on both flanks to give them something to worry about.
The second half at their place proved that they don’t like it up ‘em and I’m sure Critch will take an attacking approach.
To be fair, we could have gone on to win the game at theirs if it wasn’t for Ward’s unfortunate injury. He and Anderson were on fire until Ward went off.
I’d also like to see Gabriel and Thornely as LB/RB to give Sterling a rest.
Good luck lads and UTMP

Agree mostly, but Thorniley at LB would be a gift to that Dembele lad. Heart says win, but would accept draw

Another key point. If we happen to be winning by the odd goal with 20 minutes or so left, we can't afford to sit deep. I don't know whether Critch tells the players to do it or it's just a natural thing for them do, but too many times we concede the initiative by doing it. And it really changes the pattern of the game. For me, it's too risky an initiative inviting them on to us by sitting deep and hoping we can hit them on the counter attack.

Cold and very blustery conditions today on the Gold Coast and definite threat of rain around K.O. Not a game for hoofing that ball in play but its going to be worth taking a chance from 30 yards say, hopefully Pool have their shooting boots on but we are more likely to capitalise if we follow up any distance shots, that ball is going to be moving around a bit today!
