Blackpool v Cardiff City Official Matchday Thread 14.08.21

player should have been sent off earlier too, he has been their 12th man and they didn't need it.

I thought Cardiff have been excellent though, got to be up there at the end of the season. We'll improve for this and we need some players back, Stewart is key, Bowler has to play ahead of CJ and Lavery has to play for TJJ. Demi has been a huge miss and Madine would be great too. I would like to see Carey on too, maybe for Keshi?

Connolly for centre half with Marv, although Keogh had a good game today, Husband, Garbutt or Janes as left back and we desperately need a right back and there's still a place for Simms.

Team selection and tactics were atrocious. Our ball control was very poor too . Cardiff were far better . Why would you change a team that obliterated boro midweek . He does make some odd decisions at times. Oh well bring on coventry

There’s a lot of shit in the division and personally I don’t think we’ll be bottom 3 come the end of the season. We need to give it time again. Critch will learn from his mistakes, we have proof of that from last season. Chill.

Boro played a second string with a load of kids and looked pretty half arsed. They beat Bristol City today.

We are struggling with the physicality of the teams we've played so far, it's a big step up and a learning curve and won't be all sorted straight away.

Well done McCarthy and Cardiff. I thought they were excellent and fully deserved that. Big, strong, powerful with skill too. We couldn't cope with it at all and were never in the game. We were ponderous and had no idea how to deal with Cardiff at all. A real good learning and wake up all for the Championship.

We still need 2 or 3 players, it's obvious where and we need to be able to change things when a team are as dominant as Cardiff were from the off.

I think the clamour from the midweek game was predictable but that was two second string sides battling it out and ours was better. This is completely different although I can't see how he can leave Bowler and Lavery out on Tuesday night. We need some height and strength ourselves, so the likes of Madine, Marv and Simms (still need him) make a difference, particularly in games like that.

We'll have a few games like that today so all this talk of automatic promotion after a midweek cup game was always ridiculous. Our goal has to be to stay up, climatise and finish as high up the league as possible so we can build on last season.

The ref though, what a total cock he was.

Going to be easy to look at the performance and result and be reactionary, but Cardiff are going to be the only team that plays like that this year.

Well done to Cardiff, they had a game plan and stuck to it and we just weren't able to cope with it, a team full of gigantic men who live off of set pieces and long throws, I don't think they even completed 100 passes today, don't think we'll see any other team play like that this year. I'd fully expect them to be competing for the Playoffs at a minimum.

They're good at what they do and we were naive for trying to beat them at their own game.

We'll learn and move on, Critchley is a good coach, he'll make adjustments and we'll get better as the season progresses.

We had certain moments and could have walked away with a point if the referee had given the pen before Cardiff's second goal, a game of margins.

No need to be reactionary after that.

Still plenty of time to put things right....but Critchley must learn to put his best team out first...its no good looking good when we are chasing the game...Ward looked great 2nd half....Dougall was well off the pace the whole game....The problem with the John Jules signing is Arsenal will expect him to Start and and if Madine was back he wouldnt be good enough for the bench.

Cardiff are not a good side but they are a very effective one and i still think they wil be one of the top two this season. today we had the wrong side from the start. CJ was too lightweight, TJJ had some nce touches but i think Lavery from the start would have given their big guys a torrid time. We looked a different team again when bowler and Lavery were on, they had to sit deeper so that we couldnt get around the back of them.

Still saw enough today to say we will be ok. Critch will have to put that one down to the learning curve and move. i do think from the three competetive games and the pre-season games we need to up the pace. i didnt see the midds game until after and i was shocked at how slow we were even in that game.

again another absolutely shit referee. the cardiff defender should have been booked for a deliberate trip when CJ went past him, the same defeder deliberately pulled down TJJ as he went past him, the offside decision against cardiff when husband passed back to maxwell, the yellow card for their defender when lavery went past him. then has the audacity to give Husband a yellow as their striker fell over. would like to see the handball agian as well. but fuck knows where the defence was when they went up and scored afterwards.

Cardiff are wise to this league and mick knows how to be clever , pool need to wise up , be stronger , ref didn’t help , but nether did pool , critchley needs to start better team , the team needs about 3 quality players , right back is a must

TJJ is better than Madine - will be when he's settled in.

I disagree. On that showing Cardiff are a top four side…light years away from Bristol City. Their away record is phenomenal for a reason. No disgrace today, we are learning about the step up and today has been a lesson but we nearly got a point.

Can’t argue with that result, Cardiff fully deserved it.

Did we ever do well against Mick McCarthy? I seem to recall we always struggled against his Wolves and Ipswich sides too.

We don't really know if they were forced deeper or simply chose to sit deeper late in the game? Possibly a bit of both.

Basically could have given Cardiff that result when I saw the line up. Took a while before mistakes were rectified last season - well the arrival of Calderwood.
Frustrating.
Don’t mind losing fair & square if we are playing our strongest team, which we weren’t.

i said yesterday that they are one of my favourites for the top two. they will score a lot of goals from freekicks and other stuff around the box, but i think a couple of footballing teams will give them a hiding.

An utterly disappointing game and their 2nd goal is testament to how ruthless this league is.

I have complete faith we'll adapt and adjust to this league just like we did in league one. Up the ** Pool, keep the faith

If back passing made money, Critchley would be the new Bill Gates. Forwards making runs, calling for the ball and the back 4 just play it back to Maxwell, then amongst themselves, then lose it? WTF kind of game plan is that?
