Blackpool v Plymouth Argyle Official Matchday Thread 27.03.21

An OK result in the grand scheme of things when you consider the last 2 results especially. I’d have taken a point at half time but Critch will be fuming we’ve given 2 away at the death again. Kai Kai was poor today even in the second half. Lucky to get his goal but he’s wasted a lot of chances to kill the game off, been caught out of position time after time and failed to get in to the spaces he should be doing - that and constantly misplacing passes. Kai Kai needs dropping ASAP. A spell on the bench may do him the world of good. Mitchell was vastly improved in the second half. Turton excellent as always. Yates’ piss will be boiling at the lack of service and poor final balls. Great to see Gretarsson back playing.

It's nerves BECAUSE we've conceded late.
Yeah, just very frustrating.

The way we came out second half was much improved without really creating a hat full of chances.

But towards the end we just drift away and can't keep the ball at times.

5 minutes to hold out against Plymouth and we salvage a win out of a poor day.

Happened against Wimbledon too, you've got to beat these sides.

Just hard to take.

A draw seems alright after our first half performance. Getting on top is nothing short of brilliant in those circumstances, in the context of that it is bloody annoying to throw it away as we should be seeing it out from there.

Is what it is, still unbeaten at home and the lads get a rest now with no mid-week game. In 6th with games in hand on everyone above us, we're still securing play-offs lads - no worry about it!

Fair result over 90 minutes. Penalty looked a bit soft as well. It says to me we're running out of steam with the current XI and need to get some the injured back. No harm done though in the long run with only Portsmouth winning.

The commentators bigging up Blackpool's second half performance - yes better than the first but only marginally. Sully sleeping for their equaliser and he knew it! Some of the good situations we had in the second half only to play the wrong pass, or lack of composure, Mitchells reluctance to run at the last defender (who was out for the count) and then play a bad ball. If footballers had brains they'd be dangerous. I think stupidity cost us today.

At least they now have a week to hopefully regain the energy required to play our pressing game.

Michael Jackson was full of praise for us prior to the game on Radio Blackburn. Said the performance in the week against Peterborough was as good as anything he’d seen in League 1 this season. I thought his comments during the game were fair enough as well..
Yes, but then he mentioned that we’d conceded late goals in previous games , and then they scored. He did however apologies to Chizzy, but it was too late by then.

Kaikai seems to fade as a match goes on. I think it would help to see him come off with 15mins to go and get some fresh legs on.

Tired legs at the end and no confidence from NC in the bench. Over 90 minutes probably a fair result, bit of a break to the Swidon game, rest the legs.
Onwards and upwards, keeo the faith, another point towards the goal.

Because he’s only scored 24 goals in almost 350 games.
Morty always said you can have 100 shots and 99 of em will end up in the stand but the one that hits the back of the net everyone will be talking about it.

Bet they'll be a few on the pasty muncher site talking about it tonight😁🤷‍♂️

Need to be a bit more savvy late on, to break the game up. An injury here and there, a late sub, just don’t let the opposition get up a head of steam.

Sully has got to be disappointed, just stand in the guys way, he was facing goal watching the ball, instead of watching his shoulder.

Win the games in hand and I can’t see us being outside the top 7. It’s on for us, so another 7 out of 9 in a week is ok. I’ll take 4 from the next 6.

Plymouth didn't play a game in the week, something that is noteworthy.

They would have been fresh, we're coming off the back of a hard fought performance against Peterborough. These lads will come back stronger going into the business end of the season.
How fresh have you been after a 300 mile coach trip?

I think that was the whole point of the comment.”99 times out of 100 it would have been over the bar”.

Yes, a few of the lads looked tired, which can only be expected, they’ve put in a lot of hard work in recent performances, a bit of rest this week should help them massively. UTP.

Looking for a scapegoat, lets blame KaiKai. Actually, this was a game too far, the players lacked energy and that is understandable. A few days to recuperate and they will come back even stronger. But we do need some of our injured to return. UTMP!

Yeah we are at times so sloppy in the final 3rd, wrong decisions etc.

Thought Yates was poor today, ran a lot but no quality.

Some of our shooting is often blocked even when its obviously going to be blocked with a player right in front, yet they shoot anyway rather than feint to shoot to create space. Gabriel did amazing to run into the box past people on the penalty shout but he didn't try and pass it nor did he shoot.

That Embleton shot probably went over the north stand...

Some sides around us are failing but we still have some weaknesses that need addressing. Lack of goals from open play is still there. Now conceding late is not a good habit.

Big chance missed today to really push on.

I start to think we need to see some of the injured back, options are really limited. Hope Grettarson can kick on from his 45, Thorniley looked uncharacteristically hesitant today.

Kaikai, Mitchell continue to deliver, not quite coming off for Jerry second half, think he will enjoy the longer break till Friday. Dougall seemed to be very tight to the byline frequently, consequently his passing was not positive.

Just to celebrate again that ball from Gabriel over the top to Demi, simple class

That first half was a prime example of how tired we looked, 2nd to everything.

I bet that 2nd half was pure adrenaline off a half time rollicking. Fair play to 'em getting ahead, wish they'd seen it off but plenty more games to secure promotion 😉 As I've said, the points tally we've been picking up considering our injury list is absolutely sublime!

Good summary. Given the number of times we dispossessed them in midfield in the second half, we should have had more return but the final ball, again(!), often went astray.
Mitchell worked hard and was excellent second half. He's a young lad and needs tutoring in how to play the final ball and when to shoot.

Would it have been a game too far if Oxford had won
Same with Peterborough

So because we couldn't hold on to the lead it's a game too far and now they're all tired.

What happens if we go to Swindon and win? Will the 5 days off have refreshed everyone?

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this after today.

His performance will largely be hidden today because we ended up playing fairly well in the end and he ragged a goal.

It’s not great singling out a player for his performance but again he was a complete passenger, that would be bad enough but the air shot from Ward’s rebound and his failure to track Edward’s for their equaliser ultimately cost us 2 more points.

I really don’t know where we go with him now, it’s even more frustrating because in the last two games he’s shown us what he can do. But we can’t afford a good performance out of home ever 5 or 6 games.

Correct about the running out of steam and needing players back. The penalty was correct though. He was bundled over.

How can he have cost us 2 points when he scored one of our two goals in a draw?

Whilst it initially felt like 2pts thrown away again, Plymouth did deserve more from dominating the 1st half, just as we did in the 2nd half. So a fair result and the unbeaten run continues. Still in 6th place with the games in hand.

Kaikai disappears when he's treated roughly. Put someone behind/inside him to protect him and he can do his work.

Oh, what a ** surprise. Lets blame Sullay. They completely focussed on shutting him out - he got clattered three times in first ten minutes, he was roaming all over trying to lose his double marking - he still scored. Since you last questioned him, he's got 2 assists and a goal...

'Where do we go with him'

Stop ** picking him out every single time we don't win. Embleton didn't touch the ball first half. Dougall was ragging it all over the place and giving it away constantly. Garbutt made mistakes and so on...

They're knackered. Sullay included.

Apologies for adopting the default aggressive tone of the message board. You are one of my favourite posters and in real life I would never, ever speak like that to you!.

But I bloody love Sullay.

How can he have cost us 2 points when he scored one of our two goals in a draw?

Scores the sitter or just runs back 5 yards we win.

3 points for a win we got 1 with the draw. 3 minus 1 is 2 points lost.

But that’s not the crux of what I was saying. All that was just on top of an anonymous performance. His rate of passenger performances to great performances is not good. It’s more annoying as he’s one of the most talented players on our books.

Here we go. They're knackered... They did well to drag themselves back into it. What a gutting end though. Felt we should have freshened up front in the last 15 cos I thought we had them on the ropes. It is what it is.
