Blackpool v Swansea Official Matchday Thread 13.08.22

I cannot remember giving away a worse goal. One player back for our corner. What an utter shambles. It was like slow motion.

Small kids round me are going off on one but adult supposed Blackool fans are just leaving early.
No passion - No pride !

I have been really unimpressed with Fiorini today.
Due to work commitments I couldn’t attend today.. However, what I took from watching on TTV is:

Fiorini looked good in spells, horrendous in other spells.
Carey isn’t a championship standard footballer, despite how much we all want him to be.
Bowler doesn’t do much to get the game by the scruff of the neck if he isn’t involved in the match.

Good points:
Lavery energy is class - just wish his technical ability was a bit more.
Marv, despite some touch and go moments in first half, solid defensively again.
Grimshaw won’t be here come end of January if we’re down there because he’s arguably one of the best goalkeepers I’ve seen at Blackpool.
North Stand phenomenal, again.

We've been murdered there fair and square. Absolute garbage 1st half and the 2nd half was better, but not much. Passing, decision making, not good enough at all. Patino a massive bright spot, must start next game, he's a class act

We struggled to create chances. However, had Bowler squared the ball it probably would have been a different result. A few additions are needed. Not sure our midfield is of the quality to be starting games in the Championship.

Not too disheartened there, especially after the woeful first half.

Changes were made and they worked.

Poor pen

Poor decision making by bowler.

Gutted at the result, but not the performance (at least in the 2nd half).

We were all over them in the 2nd half and Lavery made a huge difference, easily should have had two goals.

Yates misses his penalty and Bowler decides not to square it to Yates for a tap in.

We keep putting pressure on and get burned on a counter from our own corner.

Never should have lost that.

Patino needs to start over Carey or Fiorini. Both have good moments throughout but also drift out of the game as well, Patino is clearly better than both.

To be fair to Bowler, yes he should have squared it to Yates but he also created our only two real chances and the goalie did well to save both efforts.
I‘d blame Yates more than Bowler, as 1-0 up and they have to press for an equaliser and the game opens up.
Well done Lavery he got us going 2nd half and then Patino had some nice touches.
All not lost just yet, we’ll probably win at QPR!

better second half. wasnt a penalty by any stretch of the imagination the foot of the defender was a 12 inches from dougs when he went down. Bad goal to give away. No urgency to get back and defend.
Lavery and jerry together have just got the energy to put defences under pressure. and they seem to be building an nderstanding they are getting close and runnig off of one another.
Bowler has to learn to get his head up, too many times did the hard work and pissed proper opportunities against the wall.
have to say so far im not that convinced by Fiorini, without doubt hes got a great pass on him but he needs so much space to work in, and hes another who often doesnt get his head up. Im going to add stamina wise he looked gone on 60mins again.
Thought Jerry had a decent second half - apart from the penalty truly awful, first half was largely spent in our defensive third, but he holds the ball up and does the simple stuff.
Williams is looking uncomfortable on the left hand side of the defence, i have no doubt there is a good player in there but he would be better on the right hand side. Thompson gets caught out of position as well quite often.
Carey was non descript today -

Patino when he came on added some urgency - hes obviously got a sublime touch but unlike bowler and Fiorini he knows when to do the simple stuff.

there's a disorganisation to the team that i havent seen in the last two years, even when we were bad in that period we didnt look this disorginised. three games in the league against mediocre opposition where we have sat back and let them come at us for two thirds of each game.

All the officials were truly terrible today, from the booking for connolly for a perfectly good tackle, the penalty that just wasnt, and jerry getting wrestled down in the box. we took the ball out of play at least three times and just played on and the liners didnt notice. im not sure one of the swansea bookings was warranted but there was some fairly cynical stuff from them that went unpunished.

Didnt deserve to win - didnt win.

Not a great start to the season, three points from 3 games, and just the one goal early on in the first game, but we just have to hold our nerve. Stay calm. Panic doesn't work. Slagging people off doesn't work. Appleton is going nowhere. It's only 3 games and we haven't been battered yet and the window hasn't closed yet. It may not improve but it should do as we sort out who plays where and they adapt to the new system.

Kids in midfield isn't working and we are short up front. I'd say we need a midfielder and a striker more than any other position including right back - but we should bring in a RB too. If we had Stewart and Dougall with Patino in midfield it would be better. Bowler and Lavery up front will cause teams problems if they are on form and confident. And if they don't leave! And I think Yates can improve and do a job for us.

I hope there are people in the camp who can keep spirits up, build the atmosphere and the bonds in the group - that might be a concern, the players seem to have been affected by the Quitch departure, possibly.
