Cardiff City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 17.12.22

That's the kind of performance that gets you the sack.Appleton fighting for his job here ,will the players respond to his half time team talk because if they don't he's toast

Luckily for me I’ve had a protest going on outside my hotel which was way more interesting than this game but the last people have just left, must of been 10,000 of em, hopefully the second half will entertain🤞

I think the second half of this game will be a defining moment in our season. If this performance continues then it means that either the manager has lost the dressing room and/or Appleton can’t implement essential changes when things are not working.

Cardiff going into this game were nervous and in a poor run like ourselves. We have done nothing. Nothing at all to force the issue and nothing at all to show positivity.

Say what you want about injuries, but we don’t look like a well coached / drilled team.
Exactly this. Yes we have more than our share of injuries but at least make us difficult to play against with what you have, especially when it’s the same players who looked good enough for this division last season.

Come on. This team is barely League One quality. It’s pointless watching as defeats are so inevitable.
we have been barely league one quality for the majority of the last 40/50 years, but we have put up a fight and achieved some great success against the odds.

OK we are hampered with all the injuries but there is no excuse for such a poorly coached, lacklustre display from the players on the pitch. And that is down to the manager. He has to go.
I noticed, during the Connoly, injury that there seemed some touchline dissent / disagreement between some players and the 'coaching' staff.
So there should be.

It's quite simple. Look at the bench. That tells you everything you need to know.

When CJ is your game changer.

Or a lad like Beesley.

I posted months ago we would be down by Easter with this clown and got berated and called a Nobber. He didn't just leave us within a few weeks he also left Blackburn. The guy isn't good enough and SS should have got rid b4 the World Cup.

same players same tactics same system same result same old shite, does he want the sack or is he that pig headed that he thinks it will come good?
That’s the bit I don’t get Hazi?

Both of us are normally very positive towards managers and players, and often late to be negative. In this case I’m willing him to make the change. I thought the break would help but now I’m left wondering why he’s not ripping up the failing game plan and going to plan B?

Not posted for a while, as been trying to gauge if this is recoverable under MA. I’ve come to the conclusion it isn’t.

The manager is devoid of ideas and just keeps doing the same thing week in week out.

The biggest concern is that I’m watching players who are shadows of what they can be. To me it seems some are going through the motions, completely demotivated with the situation. We give the ball away all the time, can’t make simple passes and then cannot recover, as we saw with the goal today. Just so easy to play against. I don’t honestly believe that is us, it’s not what this group is about, so it has to be something deeper.

Whether we turn this game around or not, we cannot afford to give MA access to the January market, as he’s demonstrated such limited ability. We wanted him to succeed, but it’s time now for SS to make a change, as we cannot afford to give up Championship status so easily.

I know Grimshaw is the best keeper in the world when he's not playing, but talk me through his positioning for their goal. I thought he made the strikers mind up for him, leading to an easy chip.

Maybe so but we had some talent. There is no talent in this team at all. Throw in a shit manager and lack of fight from the players, it’s a car crash. It’s been happening for ages hence why I’ve stopped going. The whole thing is too predictable to be enjoyable.

I’ve been prepared to give Appleton the benefit of the doubt because of injuries and some previous decent performances. However, his team selection last week and today doesn’t make any sense. As Michelle mentioned in her post we have two natural wingers in Hamilton and Poveda and yet he persists in playing our two natural goal scorers on the wings. Last week he brought Hamilton and Poveda on , far too late by the way and we immediately looked more of a threat. The changes should be made now at half time, Hamilton and Poveda on. I personally would bring Madine off but he won’t because he’s been made captain. It looks like the players are disheartened and lack confidence in the way they have been asked to play.

This was awful. Dougall, ffs man he is a terrible footballer. Carey, what is even the point in him, where is he even supposed to be playing. Lavery having a mare again too.

That was a deeply worrying 45.

I can’t recall the last time I saw a Blackpool team looking so short of confidence, creativity & direction.

These players aren’t ‘sh*t’ - they’re talented professional athletes, but at this point in time they look to have totally lost their way as individuals, and, more importantly, as a cohesive unit.

Like many, I expected the WC break to be an opportunity to review & regroup, but it’s painfully obvious something is very, very seriously wrong.

Gosh this is poor 0 shots & our "saviour" goalkeeper lucky to have not conceded a pen & his distribution is shite too, last to every ball & no ** movement. I've seen more movement from my bowels. Appleton again stood there like Marley's ghost. The HT music is terrible too.

442 is a dirty word to Appy but stopped the rot under Critch, if only Appy had watched the games from last season he might of learned something.
Critchley wasn't too proud to accept that he couldn't play his preferred system as the players weren't responding to it. I think Appleton is too stubborn and thinks his way will work eventually once the players accept he knows best.
It won't improve.

His actions now, i.e. will he change it, will tell us a lot.

I think he's too stubborn to admit he's wrong.

Not a chance would I be funding any signings in 2 weeks to back Appleton if I was SS.
By and large these are the same players that Critchley had last year and we rarely looked this clueless.
He needs gone, straight after the game, and someone else being brought in who tactical nous stretches past knowing 1 formation regardless of whether the players fit it or not.

There was never any chance what is happening now wasn't going to happen sooner or later; a truly head scratching God awful appointment.

The longer he stays, the harder it will be for us to remain in this division.

Actually, on paper this is not a bad team, but that 1st half display is the worst I have seen for a very long time. Something is badly wrong and I don't believe Appleton can remain in charge for much longer. We might still go down, but at least lets go down fighting; this is embarassing.

The bench isn't the best but isnt playing, those on the pitch are not being motivated as it stands. That'll get us relegated.
