Cardiff v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 19.02.22

I thought Coventry were quite poor last night and Cardiff not much better until the last quarter of the game. I think we’ll nick this one and hope Madine gets a goal to haunt them. I’ve already been told to expect chants of “Gary Madine, he’s a washing machine” from the Bluebirds.

Carry it on with rinses taffs is a goal machine which is why he plays in tangerine

Set pieces the key for me, cut out the silly free kicks and defend well from corners we will be ok. Gonna be a tough game so I would take a draw.

With Ryan Wintle's insider info on us I wonder if Critch will try to use surprise tactics?

We've only won 3 away games. A fourth seems unlikely tomorrow?

We're due some luck, bad luck against these not to get a penalty at home and then the game is different, also due some luck in general.

The starting eleven in the home fixture against Cardiff was:
Maxwell
Connolly Keogh Husband Garbutt
Hamilton Ward Dougall Anderson
Yates John-Jules

So at least 7 changes for today.
We've improved massively since that game and if we play at the same level as last week there is every chance of a win.

They have changed a lot too. And won their last 3 home games. We've only won 3 away games all season. A win is not out of the question, we are playing well, but a draw or defeat seems more likely, I think?

5 of our changes will be the defence and the goalie, and not exactly stronger, with Keogh, Marv, Husband all missing. With Stewart play today? I hope so. More logical to rest him midweek I think, space out his games.

Decisions to make in central defence, midfield and Yates or Lavery I guess.

If Marv starts it narrows it down to midfield, two from Stewart, Connolly and Dougall. I think we will stick with 442 but you never know! And Lavery might get the nod over Jerry.

Scrafton and McGinley have predicted the same line-up..

Grimshaw
Gabriel Casey Thorniley Sterling
Bowler Connolly Dougall Hamilton
Lavery Madine

But sounds like Marv instead of Casey. Who will be gutted I suspect!

Looking outside at the weather, one of those days when you're glad we're away from home.

Tenth anniversary almost exactly since a famous 3-1 win at Cardiff. Absolutely freezing conditions, similar to recent weather and a similar result to that would be great.

The height of Keogh and Marv [if unfit] will be a big miss today against their big physical presence at set pieces.

Ha ha, another curveball team selection from Critch, no surprise I suppose. Wonder why Dougall is not in the squad. Interesting to see what Kirk can do.

You can rarely guess a Critch team, can you? Glad that Marv starts, hope he's fully fit, pleased he's sticking with Yates and it will be good to see what Kirk can bring to the team. No Dougall at all and surprised to see Stirling instead of Gabriel.

Edit to add at least the bench gives us options in every area of the pitch, be it for injuries or a change in tactics.
