Cashless concourses

True, plus tramps and beggars outside shops, they look especially sad these days as no one has change, unless in the unlikely scenario they start getting card machines for contactless payments....
Always add a sarnie, beer on me bill to give to the guy outside Tesco in St Annes square, far worse off than ourselves.

Thats good actually, if people do give goods instead of cash which ends up on booze or drugs, it cant really go astray.

That’s why we do it, plus have a word with them as to how they’ve got into their present predicament, some sad stories out there.

I think it's a convenient excuse to get rid of cash transactions and, thereby reduce till fraud by employees.
For me no reason to not still take it, the trend is card anyway and most will be so surely should be fast anyway.

But for those who want cash I dont really see a reason to rule them out.

We should imo be taking all money, don't be fussy.

Apart from shoving a few coins in me pocket for tips if we’re off out for a meal, haven’t used cash for maybe 4 years, spurred on when those hideous slippery notes came out. As far as older fans being affected, most probably take their own provisions for half time munchies. Personally I can’t be arsed to leave my seat at half time and don’t see any need to do, I can last 2 hours without feeding my face. My money goes to the club on season tickets, club shop purchases et al. Time to move forward.
No. Time to be a bit more understanding of people in different circumstances to your own.

Speeds up the sales process, reduces the work of the finance department, encourages a greater spend from the customer, reduces risk of theft and reduces contact points to. Progress, common sense and good business. The worlds changing and the club now keeps up with it.
Encourages a greater spend from the customer. Exactly. You sound like a business PR.

Oh come on, I’m an old socialist like yourself, but change is coming fast and we can’t go on living in the past. You mention about it being a working mans game but not quite the working mans game we grew up with.

I agree Levi. It just seems that businesses are gleefully using the opportunity of Covid to wipe out a whole way of life that many people still rely on. I'd rather cash died a natural death over a slower period. I don't understand the relish that some people feel for getting rid. Not when we still have a generation that's not as adaptive as we are.

Makes perfect sense to me time moves on and people have to change.
A very very small percentage of people don't have phone's, Internet and bank cards etc are they the type who would normally spend in the ground I don't think so.
Don't talk such a load of cobblers, what the hell has not having a card or mobile got to do with spending money in the shop? Friggin' idiot comment. I don't have a mobile phone (or want one) and I don't use a card for purchases but I spent a small fortune in there before the restrictions..................bloody twonk!

If, as you sayyou work in a bank, you will know the main drivers behind a cashless country are the banks. Once they get their way just watch the charges start flying in, charge for running your account, transaction charges etc. etc. Just like they did years ago when they lobbied for repeal of the truck act, which for the younger poster gave everyone the right to be paid in cash. That was the top of the slippery slope which we are now halfway down. Before the accusations start flying, I am not a Luddite I use cards myself. But I would like to be able to use them at my convenience, not because someone else tells me I must.
My sentiments exactly! Seems to be more negative comments than I thought there'd be.

The change was coming 66, COVID has just accelerated it like other aspects of life. I agree it’s difficult for the generation above us to take on board, but they have the younger ones to guide them, although sadly not in every case. Having said that I’m 70 next year and so many aspects of life are rapidly changing it’s hard to keep up sometimes!

We used to go in that little newsagents on the corner a couple of doors down from the chippy, probably not there anymore I imagine.

If I was lucky I got a packet of "fish n chips" ('member those?) from the kiosk placed precariously close to the west stand pissing wall.

I can’t believe in this day and age this is actually restricting people from buying from the ground. How do they pay gas/electric, water bills, phone/broadband?
Many of them do telephone banking where all this is done for them after passing security.

Did you get a season ticket ,go on holiday abroad, concert ticket, buy a car or house with cash don't be such a dinosaur.🤡

I can understand both sides of the argument. It appears following the use of cards during the pandemic and lockdown that this is going to become more the norm. I use both but prefer cash for smaller transactions. Using a card means using your head and not going mad, and too many people forget that the limit you have on your card does not mean you should spend it. It still has to be paid for at the end of the month. As I tend not to spend a great deal once in the ground, I hate queueing, If service is faster and queues are therefore shorter it may encourage me to use the catering facilities.

Just recently come back from lads trip and one of the lads won't use contactless, he has a phone but didn't even know how to attach to WiFi in apartment. he doesn't trust cash machines so will only withdraw cash from in side the bank.

As local branch has moved other day he had to drive to St Anne's, park Just to get to a branch.

He wonders why he has no time in his life!!

To be honest I feel sorry for people like that. It really must be hard work having high levels of paranoia like that.

If I use my debit card 5 times consecutively contactless , it then requires me to use chip and pin for security reasons . I take it chip and pin will also be available .

It will be. It's just standard card machines.
I'd contact my bank if I were you. I almost never need to enter my pin.

Most schools are cashless.
Odeon cinemas are cashless.
Poolfoot Farm and Fylde's Training centre are cashless.
Cruise ships have been cashless for years.
Dozens of other clubs are cashless.
Why are people using this as something to attack the club about?
Because some people have nothing better to do than moan like fuck about everything the club does!

All our bills etc at the hotel are paid by direct debit. A lot of our guests still pay their remaining balance on arrival at the hotel in cash so we use cash quite a lot for things. If we pay cash into our buisness account we are charged £1.50 for every £100 we pay in absolutely scandalous when it’s a machine that counts it and not the staff
Why should we have to pay to put money into our own bank account ??

What do you pay to accept credit and debit cards these days?

How do homeless people get there money from the state?. Would be astonished if they had bank accounts.
It's a condition of benefit that you have to have access to a bank account with very rare exceptions. There are special basic bank accounts for those who need them.

How does that help the homeless as you need a valid ID or proof of address.

I am guessing very few homeless carry a passport or driving license??

Good news for those who don't have a bank account, credit/debit card just heard they will accept Green Shield Stamps if you have any lying around

Funny the passion shown for cash on here. Must be an age thing. I hate having cash lying around. If I get it I can't wait to get rid of the stuff that's been handled by God knows how many sets of dirty hands.

Rarely have any unless it's given to me and then it goes on the first shop to get shut. Card payments are a blessing.

They need to add some vending machines for
Kids or anyone who doesn’t have a debit card.

weirdo

Hi mate. I appreciate you being diplomatic, thank you, but here goes-

I assure you that -
I’ve not had a bank account for 30 years.
I am most definitely a self employed cabby.
I owe no money to HRMC.

I’ve never said I don’t use bank accounts- if I want something quickly off Amazon, one of my mates or kids orders it, and I pay them the cash.
I’ve had some really good jobs that have paid my salary into other peoples accounts, and my son pays for Sky in my house (which is the only bill from my house that is not bank account free on my part).
I’ve refused job offers (I’m a telecoms engineer by trade) because I refused to get into a bank, but on several occasions been called back with a solution that worked for both parties.
My experience over the 30 years, is that transactions are a balance between how much the company/corporation wants your money compared to how much effort they are willing to put in to get it.
If I want to order something for £20 off Amazon, but write to them asking for some special arrangement they’re not going to bother.
If I tell the council that the only way I can pay them is cash, they find a solution.
No one can force you to have a bank account. Some organisations might try, and you might miss out on advantages by not having one (almost sounds like COVID passports), but if you’ve sent a recorded letter stating that you are looking for another solution then they have to meet you half way.

I’ve got a mortgage with a bank in which I’ve never had an account. I pay cash at the bank and have never had a problem. You can also pay income tax at a bank with the correct documentation.

Sorry for the very long reply, I’m a knob sometimes, but I don’t lie.

Ps - all my mates think I’m a weirdo for my anti-bank ideas too.
Sounds like to much hard work to me but it’s your choice.

I'm not sure I really want to go into the packed concourses just yet, I'll wait a while I think. A friend who's gone all conspiracy theory mad, would probably say, they'll link all your alcohol/fast food purchases to your health records & subsequently refuse treatment or you pay a surcharge. I've not yet succumbed to the card payments for paltry amounts, where you can use cash, but don't mind paying for a meal etc. But we'll have little say in the matter I think. Someone teased by suggesting us Luddites may prefer to return to the barter system, which conjured an image of someone going in with a small sheep & being given a chicken as change. Made me laugh anyway.

Yes, deprive the club of money, that's the way to go, top supporting.
I usually go to games with a certain amount of cash for my beer and food etc. So i will be eating before the game, drinking inside the ground doesn’t bother me as i can’t stand the plastic containers and it tastes like gnats piss.

Johnno Why?
At the beginning, in my mid twenties, it was due to debt, not facing up to it, and not wanting to be caught up with. Not very clever, but that’s the truth of it.
I was also living a bit of a bums life, dossing my way round Germany, doing cash in hand work etc.
By the time I was trying to sort myself out, i was being refused bank accounts, so had to find ways round things.
I’ve been on my feet for most of those 30 years now, but was just so used to paying bills at the post office, or a bank etc that I dont see it as a hassle.
I’ve never been very materialistic, so don’t have £1,000’s stashed under the mattress, being self employed allows me to work enough to keep me ahead, with a little put aside for emergencies.
