CJ Hamilton

I fully agree, he's great at times and certainly creates things. Just the odd mistake here and there, but even the great players make mistakes. He gets my vote to be in the team.

Stop taking Avftt so serious.
This season it's blame everyone from manager, board tea lady for losses last year players after defeat.
CJ,Madine,Maxwell, Hubby, Dougall etc etc take your pick as scapegoats 21/22.

CJ blows hot and cold like all our squad and today he had a great game.

What more does this guy have to do to win the fans over? He’s an unplayable when played in his proper position and his goal today was sublime.

I wish the haters would get off this guys back and give him a boost in confidence cause by now we all know what he’s capable of!

Keep it up CJ!
The problem with CJ is that because his touch is so bad he needs to be played in a certain way and it's not always easy to fit him in

If we played a team who played as high as Forest every week he would be perfect because of his pace but not all teams play that way

He needs the ball into space infront of him not to feet like for example Bowler and Poveda

He's also been unlucky with injuries for the past couple of years, so maybe that's a confidence thing as well

He was good today though

He's right footed but with Josh coming back who's left footed and plays on the right we're getting back to how Critch played them.😁
I thought he was predominantly left footed? he was carrying the ball with his left foot when he played in Lavery for the goal against Sunderland, anyway I just think he looks more comfortable on the left and that was his best game since the Preston game when he also played on the left

Makes you wonder why Appleton played him on the right against Sunderland a bizarre decision
Yep, better on the left.
But also better when he's played to his strengths, the main one being having the ball played in front of him to run on to. That's perhaps why he does well when Charlie is freed up to play those balls wide and over the top.
Love seeing him run at defenders with his pace.

However, some of the criticism is partly justified. He can't trap/control a ball well when played to feet, and he's not so strong in the air. Tbf he's earned his place with recent performances, and his goal today showed composure, whereas previously I thought he lacked compsure. Well played 👏 👏

He is left footed. He was playing as an inverted winger under Critchley!

He just looks better on he left to me Phil,it's the first time I've seen Appleton play him the right band it didn't really work
I agree with you, to be honest I used to say they same thing when Critchley played him on the right

I'm not sure it works as technically he's not good enough to come inside and beat his man like a Bowler

Left all day for me, but I guess he will be fighting for that role now we have the lad from City with Bowler on the left

What to have options eh ....

The idea of inverted wingers is outdated. Was great to watch back in the day when you’d see someone cut inside and curl one in the far corner from 25 yards but everyone is wise to it these days.

Tbf, he's scored a few from playing on the right.

Played all his games for Mansfield on the left wing where he should be before we bought him.
Today's managers always seem to play square pegs in round holes which I don't understand they should play to there strengths

Spot on. Can remember the We Should Sign This Lad-type comments on a L2 play offs match thread on here a few years back when he appeared out of nowhere on camera and leathered a shot into the top corner on the run as he was playing left wing back and had just been taking a defensive throw in before it.

Feels like we've had good value from him overall so far compared to some other signings and the level of competition.

Nonsense. Horses for courses.

CJ far better playing on the left as a left footer, Bowler far better playing on the right as a left footer.

CJ far more effective against a high line, whereas as Bowler is far more effective than CJ against a defence that sits deep.

This season since he came back from his op I’ve genuinely not read many bad comments about him. To compare him to another player is stupid. Is Bowler a better player? Yes. But CJ this season has has been back to his best when he first came here. Is he perfect? No. Does he have pace and worry full backs? Absolutely. That’s all we want, he is the kind of player who when in full flow, gets fans off their seats.

I've always liked him but in the same way I liked Kai Kai . . exciting players but unfortunately for every one good game they have 5 average ones.

With Bowler back & Rogers in the squad he'll struggle to get a game.

Always good to see CJ play well and silence the minority on here who can’t wait to give him abuse from the comfort of their armchair:
“he’s the worst winger we’ve ever had in the championship”
“can’t believe he’s picked CJ in a derby game” (made before this seasons PNE game!)
“He’s just a fast window cleaner”

That’s two goals and three assists this season from the equivalent of just over 8 full games (including the aberration v Barrow) which extrapolates to 11 goals and 17 assists over the course of a full season.

We all recognise he has weaknesses and can be frustrating at times but you can’t fault his contribution overall.
Keep up the good work CJ and avoid listening to the negative detractors!

Cj is 50/50
One week he’s up for it, shoulder barging chasing everything efforts on goal
Next week piss poor falling over looking for a foul
If only he gave it all week in week out

The inverted winger role worked very well for CJ in Div 1. He was lethal and was our biggest concern when he was injured in the run up to the play offs.

He has a good shot on him and ridiculous pace.

However, in the Championship defenders are more cute and they blocked the space available inside and showed him outside. Fine when on the left - an issue when on the right.

I have been a critic of his and he still has a bit to do to be a complete article.....
It's blatantly obvious he has ability and it's now becoming apparent that he's being coached and listening.

For his goal today, I was sat right behind him when he shot......gun barrel straight and with power.

He's won me over. Good luck to whoever has to defend against him.....flying machine.

He won most fans over against Preston but was for some reason dropped against Hull. Might have had a knock who knows but one of many strange decisions.

After the Preston game he started the the next three games and his form dipped, he was dropped for the Middlesbrough game which before the Hull game
Fair enough. I was looking back on BBC but obviously skipped a few pages 😁

Point is, he gives us something on the wing that the ‘strikers’ don’t and going forward it should be a battle with him and Rogers who plays on the left. Yates needs to be taken out or equation and played upfront.
