England v Nigeria WWC Thread

Any Feelgood factor that England Women's football has garnered has just taken a hit with one stupid, arrogant moment of sheer madness.
Totally unnecessary, and if England now lose, that sending off will haunt James for the rest of her career.
But, when everybody 'bigs' you up, and you get to be on TV adverts, it can cause you to start believing your own hype.

Still..... it is what it is, so let's see what the other girls are made of if it goes to extra time and pens....
These things happen. People make mistakes under pressure.

Commentator just said the Nigerian football federation canceled their pre World Cup training, and didnt allow the manager to bring his assistant with him. They’ve not trained together before the tournament, absolutely mental!

They are running around like computer game players.

Are they doing any "samples" after the game?!

The teams that win tournaments are one's that can keep their cool and their discipline, and James needs to learn that because if she gets frustrated and does that at crucial times in her club and international career, she's not going to win many trophies.
It was a mistake, she shouldn't be vilified for it. But she must learn the lesson. You just aren't going to get away with that these days with VAR.

that could well have been a pen and am surprised var didn't have a look. Got away with it.

Was going to say the same.

I hope she isn't vilified like Beckham was. It's only a game. She was stupid, but these things happen every week on thousands of football pitches all over the world.

The media must be under instructions not to criticise the women's team, if it was one of the ment they'd be crucified but they will go easy on her.

All tournament I have thought England have a great back 5 and a good midfield 4 and no decent striker. Russo, Kelly, England all look below par.

Big shootout. England would be big favorite in the semi final. Just put them low in the corners. The keepers don't seem that good in this tournament

Did anyone else notice some of Nigeria players look almost distraught on the sidelines, very odd body language it's as if they think they have already lost. Hopefully we have the mental side won here, which is a utterly bizarre thing to be typing about an England squad in a penalty shootout

She's a left footer Alozie, and I wondered if she was trying to go across the keeper.
She leans back and it's on it's way to the moon!

Well done ladies, after a shocking 1st penalty and batting with only 10, that took some character. We have to play better going forward however.

They totally used their get out of jail card there, the best team went out. But who cares? We've been on the other end too many times.

Excellent to hold their nerve after the red card.

Congrats to the Lionesses!
