Hull City v Blackpool Official Matchday thread 26.12.22

Well it’s now 9 wins needed from 22 games,I’d like one of them to be in the next 2 games but Itl be tough .the pressure on a decision about the manager mounts .

That’s the run of poor opposition ended. Ten games against mostly bottom half teams and 3 of the 4 teams around us.

No signs of improvement in fact it feels like we are going backward.

Yes, we are still in there battling.. but if we just draw one lose one, there will come a day or two when the teams around us win a couple and we start to get left behind…

My hope is that the recruitment team we brought in from Coventry can work their magic in the window and they have targets in mind.

Je could have been told to
Lack of match fitness more than anything.
He could have been told to watch himself and to grow into the game. Could he have shadowed the Hull player to the edge of the pitch? - I wasn't there. Either way, like Anderson a few weeks ago, he lunged in too early. The Manager and his team, do not convince me.

Only saw last few minutes of the first half & the second, they were there for the taking & better finishing we'd have won that. Some strange subs & worryingly no effort from Proveda when he lost the ball, makes me wonder if this is part of why he's not played much. A point's a point though with 10 men & I was glad to see JT return, but he was exposed for his lack of pace & probably took one for the team. At least we should be able get some consolation for Preston losing but considering Huddersfield can overtake us with their game in hand, even that is a little tarnished. Roll on a nice easy home game on the 29th. It seems an age since I was able to actually use my season ticket.

Did you mean Jordan Thorniley?
He opted for the Golden Gamble. Lad would have scored I think and they go on to win from there.

He could have just let the player go and taken the 1 on 1. Come away with a 1-0 and JT made the right call. 1-1 not so clearcut.

Even had he started he wouldn't have found himself in that position. Just a case of cold on the day and cold after some weeks out.

Happy with a point after the sending off, as I thought at that point we would get nothing. The red cards are doing for us.
A good battling display with a strange line up overall, but really not sure where our next win is coming from.
We desperately need a win from somewhere, and some reinforcements to come in.

Well, I thought it was a gutsy performance and a great strike by Carey. Thorniley was caught cold and you couldn't really argue about the red card. Two tough home games coming up could well decide Appleton's fate.

From what I’ve read on here, the players fought for the shirt and they wouldn’t do that if they weren’t behind the manager. We got a point away with only 10 men for most of the second half, credit where it’s due.

I thought Poveda worked hard and tracked back pretty well, he was a threat whilst he was on.
JT is out of his depth in this league - a donkey. I for one wasn't delighted to see him back. Husband is a much more reliable CB & LB than him.
Preston losing was bad for us - better if Huddersfield had lost.

lack of quality is a big problem.

biggest problem? we give the ball away too often in open play, and rarely win the loose / second ball.
Yes - there was a period of about 20 seconds where we won the ball back, and then passed it around them on their left wing. Made about 6 successful passes in a row and for a second I remembered what football was! Then broke, unsuccessfully, and lost the ball again.

How can we afford to have so many sending off. Not for the first time this season I'm saying we see that game out with 11 men.

That happens but the amount it's happened this season is outrageous and unsustainable considering where we are.

Fear not, lads, the Killie Unofficial Supporters Club heading down on Wednesday to watch a Seasiders victory, followed by a couple of pints and stay over in the hotel. Bit of nostalgia above. Look at the attendances! We were part time back then and going through a bad spell. A long way since we were playing Real Madrid in the European Cup in 65 and Leeds in the semi final of the Fairs Cup in 68. C’mon the Pool!!

I worked in Ayrshire 1990-93 and lived in Troon. At that time I decided to follow Killie who were promoted to the SPL at the end of the 1992-93 season. I've not been since the new ground was built but I still hold a soft spot. I have a couple of editions of an early fanzine called KillieKen. Happy days.

Merry Christmas to one and all, ive stayed off here for a few weeks whilst the the world cup has been on and our depressing form since before and after, hope youre all ok. See you in league 1 next year, i kind of like the lower leagues anyway😝 …… ☹️ not really

With Appleton yet again refusing to acknowledge the travelling pool supporters, maybe he has accepted his future is elsewhere and that he now realises he is never going to be an average championship manager, he could well have thrown the towel in but not got the bottle to admit it, perhaps he is just going through the motions and deep down wants to be slotted to get his four year payout and get back to the lower leagues with a few quid in his pocket.

Good to have you down here Killieboy. Tell us about your club's youth policy. I was just looking at the profile of your midfielder David Watson. Don't you think 10 months of age is a bit young to bring kids into the first team squad?

Well we might be struggling in most areas but we`re top on one stat ,most players red carded in the Championship this season!
This manager thinks we’re not a dirty or ill disciplined team yet we’ve got double the amount of red cards than the next worst team.

This manager thinks we’ll improve in the second half of the season despite the first half of the season ending with our worst run of form.

This manager thinks 47 points will be enough to keep us up yet we’re in the relegation zone with 25 and 22 games left to play.

This manager says he prefers attacking football but we’ve had more games without a shot on goal this season than I can remember in the last decade.

Haha……hadn’t spotted that one. I’ll post it on our forum. On a serious note, we are decent at producing players, but the big clubs are snatching then for peanuts. Both Newcastle and Man City have signed one each in the last two seasons.

Hi! Good time to support Killie. The start of a 30 year spell in the top league. Unfortunately, our current form is pretty much mirroring yours. Killie v Aberdeen tomorrow night and the. Blackpool the next night.

Same with us and most clubs mate. We have to be a selling club to survive at our level.

Ah seeing you back reminds me how when I forecast last season that Yates would not even score half as many goals last season as he did in League 1 you told me that was rubbish and you`d bookmark it till the end of the season. Gone very quiet about it since then haven`t you .Not so cocky now but no sign of the apology I`m still waiting for!!

Personally I don`t think Yates is good enough in the Championship. We` ve got better. Good work rate but offers more quantity than quality.I forecast at the start of the season that he would struggle and so far just one goal and that a penalty.
Your reply:
Rubbish.. Jerry is the best striker at the club, but strikers need service, of which he has had absolutety non whilst weve been finding our feet in this league. Give him the service and he will be our top scorer this season.

I`m afraid the rubbish is all from you as this season has already shown and will continue to show, always assuming NC thinks he`s actually worth his place which is beginning to look doubtful now. I will be amazed if he even gets half as many goals as he scored in the lower division last season.
Bookmarked till the end of the season 😄👍

Happy New Year!!!

Hahaaa, i still stand by what i said. Jeza was the top goal scorer in the league a few weeks back, no service = no goals.

No I was desperately hoping that other clubs were as misguided as you about Yates`s ability and we might cash in in January but with his present barren spell mostly against the bottom half teams showing him in his true light, the penny has probably dropped elsewhere and we`ll unfortunately have to keep him.
