Less than 2000 season tickets sold...

Let’s see where we are in a month then, but I’d wager it’s nowhere near 11k
Well obviously, we sold over 8k last season under Appleton.

A league lower it won't be as high.

Well, we could have retained most if we appointed Dobbie, went with a good price and no silly bad pr like the 20 quid card price, but... we didn't.

We'll still do alright though.

Can’t believe people are making excuses for less than 2,000 season tickets sold. It’s embarrassing and represents where we are as a club.

What excuses? It's a low number so far but there's just under a month left in the early bird, it'll go up a lot.

It's not impressive so far no, but why the club felt the need to announce that figure is the issue.

So we sell 5,000 at £349 which is 1.75 Million but sell 8,000 at £249 and you get 1.99 million so more money, more supporters in the ground, more merchandise bought, more refreshments purchased plus a better atmosphere. That's called business, sell 10.000 ST's at £249 and it's. 2.49 million.

It seems obvious to me, but Sadler's the master businessman, he knows what he's doing (guffaw)

I know I shouldn't get involved in this silly thread but that's just nonsense Wiz.

Old folk are being charged an additional £20 because they don't happen to have a smartphone.

It's not whether they can afford an additional £20 or not.

If you went out for a meal and they put £5 on your bill because you were bespectacled, I'm sure you wouldn't be best pleased and even less pleased if I popped up from the next table telling you that if you couldn't afford an extra fiver then you really shouldn't be eating out.
They're not being charged an additional £20 'because they don't have a smartphone' and it's not just 'Old Folk' either. The Club are able to offer the alternative system £20 cheaper than the option with a Plastic Card. Anyone (including 'Old Folk') can choose to use the system that best meets their own requirements.

Some people pay for their shopping with a Debit Card and earn a Cash Benefit, some pay by Credit Card and end up paying 20% interest, some use a store loyalty card and benefit from coupons, others can't be arsed with loyalty cards....Those of us who do have a 'Smartphone' have also paid very handsomely for the privilege (a damn sight more than a measly 20 nicker, that's for sure).

It's like driving around in a 1930's car and complaining that you have to pay more per mile than someone with an Electric Vehicle.... You either jump on board the technology train and reap the benefits or you stay in your cave and pay the price for being a troglodyte (simple as that really).

The maths is obvious, but the problem is that it's based on numbers that are plucked out of your backside 😉

Why it worse? We're at a completely different stage of the early bird.

Theirs are 280 in the championship and free foe under 11's.

All this nonsense aboit their home form was so bad, ours was worse. They were up near the playoffs.

It'll be funny to see if they actually have a real poor season...
To be fair, it's free for under 5s and £29 for 5-11 year olds so unless you are really watching the pennies, it's not a bad deal.
I have never understood why there are different price ranges (Not just Blackpool but everywhere) for kids as it doesn't really make any difference if you are 1 or 14, you hardly likely to be in employment and be able to pay for yourself.

Well, let's see how many we sell at the price they have asked for first and take it from there. I was being generous with 5.000!
How do you know?

Fact is (just like the rest of us) you have absolutely no access to the purchase history of STH's or to relevant 'Football Industry' data. These pricing decisions aren't made in a vacuum, they are made with a clear objective in mind, be that growing the fanbase, maximising revenue, changing buyer habits etc..etc..

We might sell a good deal more than 5,000 at the current price... A reduction to £249 might only result in a marginal increase in sales and negatively impact revenue.

So I'm not convinced that simply making up a few speculative numbers and 'hoping for the best' could ever be described as being "called business"....

Good evening Mary.

When this was first introduced a few weeks ago I was the first to say that the club might have been better saying that they were offering a £20 discount for all the supporters willing to join the new system but they didn't say that and they decided to impose a "lack of smartphone" tax - or whatever you want to call it - on some supporters.

It's a two way street, I don't even know how much a season ticket is but I'm not buying one if they persist with this charge regardless of what anybody else thinks about the charge or wants to call it.

They can have whatever they were charging me less £20 or feck all, the ball is in their court.

It's really just semantics as to how you view £20 differential. As far as the Club are concerned, the new system is the primary system and therefore that is the standard price. The Card based system is a secondary system and that is moderately more expensive... Basically the cost of a packet of fags.

The Club has made their decision and already published this years pricing policy and so as it stands, the ball is in your court.... If you decide not to buy a season ticket, then you'll be a statistic that might affect next years pricing rationale perhaps.

That's only in the family area which only holds 800. It's not a bad deal there no.

It's not stadium wide though like some, it goes up outside the family area. Not everyone wants to sit in that corner in the South.

Yes, perhaps, I'm not @rsed and I might just pay their charge but I don't think the club is going about it the right way.

*** AVFTT Caveat - Before anybody starts I am not suggesting a change in ownership is required but what I will say is, since Sadler came on board, it seems to be 50p for this, £1 extra for this, etc, etc ***

I think these extra charges are clear for everybody to see but if I'm on my own then apologies.

To be honest, i wouldn't want my kids sat in the North Stand blocks A or B due to the amount of wazzocks in there. Hopefully the 800 tickets in the family area sell out but I wont hold my breath

We either want to be a proper, professionally run football Club or we don't. It seems to me that most of the old farts on here just want to drag the Club into the dark ages and pay fuck all for anything. Then in the next breath, they're moaning because we're not signing ** Ronaldinho.

The price point at Blackpool compares very well with other Clubs and the likelihood is that we will have one of the higher budgets in League 1 and very probably be setting our stall out to have a damned good go at promotion back to the Championship. The Stadium has been massively improved, the facilities, the pitch, the changing rooms, the training facility, the staff and associated infrastructure have all been improved beyond recognition.

So what do we want?

Cheap and Cheerful?

Times are hard and I can understand that renewing with the uncertainty around who we bring in and those who can’t forgive Critchley it’s not surprising.

A good quality early signing of a goal getting striker will wake a lot of people from their slumbers.

That's why I said wait until we know how many we sell by the end of the early bird and then again by the season start because if we sell 5,000 or less I would say that is pretty poor, anything over 7,000 would be reasonable and anything over 8,000 then the pricing plan was right, but if I was the owner I would be doing everything I could to make supporters to buy tickets, not just pricing, but this bloke doesn't seem to have a clue how to promote, he's a hedge fund manager FFS, and it shows. He needs to get some staff in to run things properly because if he wants to do it all himself he's going to fuck it up.

It's no big deal and nothing like you describe.

It's as if they are trying to grab every penny that they can out of each and every supporter as opposed to offering improved services.

Perhaps I'm being harsh but I see these little additional charges all over the place.

If you don't see things as I do then that's not a problem.

He has done what any new owner would have done, we can't compare any other person to the vermin, they were one offs, he knew what was needed when he bought the club and if it had been someone else they would have done the same.

No one wants to overspend but we do want to sell the maximum amount of tickets as a full stadium is to our advantage so I don't think his tactics are the best. Last season was shit and it was because the club was run badly so you have to realise some supporters are not entirely confident of his actions based on the last 12 months, and we have a manager who has divided opinions again, no CEO, no sporting director so he may well have funded some good improvements that doesn't make him immune from criticism.

Herts

I don't think that he's a hedge fund manager has anything to do with the price of fish - or season tickets.

I doubt Sadler has much - if anything - to do with the day-to-day going ons and surely there is somebody in charge of pricing and promoting season tickets etc ?

I don't think he/she/they are doing a good job and certainly not as far as promoting season tickets goes.

Who is doing that? I would have said it was him making those decisions. He will have had a board meeting, him and a mirror 😂

Yeah, the way they bang on like they are such a bigger club is laughable when you consider it.

It's a good price and clearly beneficial to growing the fanbase and getting bums on seats. But as usual with that lot they love to compare completely different circumstances. A bit like now when laughing at our 2k when theirs early bird has just finished and ours is nearly a month away.

They are ahead and have been in the championship with a completed stadium for years now.

To me it makes it even more disappointing we don't do more to grow our fanbase.
But, but

I thought Blackpool were back😂😂😂

The jealousy and bitterness from you lot is hilarious to see considering you apparently don’t give a toss about us.

Frantically grasping at straws😂😂

I wouldn't pretend to know exactly who does what Herts but I doubt Sadler makes every single decision to do with his funds management or at BFC.

I'm thinking there would be somebody - or more than one or different people responsible - for the pricing and promotion of season tickets.

Whoever is responsible for promoting season tickets is not doing a very good job.

I see were back in Chicken Licken territory 😆 I suppose in the absence of an alternative you might as well think the worst!!

Personally, I think 5-6K is decent enough for us in L1 all things considered. Any better than that and it's a job very well done. Your perspective on SS seems very extreme to me TBH and it's not one I share at all.

Where's the jealousy and bitterness? Please point me to it...

Who would be jealous of PNE ffs.

All I've done is praise the strategy but point out the obvious, that the price plays a huge factor in the numbers.

Apparently you lot don't give a toss about us, yet here you are signed up on our site, maybe go and contribute to one of the few thousand post threads about us on your site? Yeah definitely not obsessed either eh.

You do realise the early bird runs out on July 2nd... I'm sure you'll be back when the number is far higher. 🙄 Not like you lot to misunderstand the situation... a bit like how you can't understand the boycott.

At least this season will disprove the rubbish you lot spout on that too, when the crowds are far higher than during those years, proving its not just because we "didn't fancy league 1" 🤡

Infact 2k is already more than went during that time, so it's already proven you wrong.

We had over 8k, if we lost 3k ST it would be very poor imo.

We had 6.5k I think last time in league 1 when we could attend. Although was that SS first season.

Still, since then we've been up in the championship so should have attracted more fans more regularly.

All it would have taken is a price that resonates, a bit of a buzz and no silly pr like the card and we'd probably retain most the ST holders.

I still think we'll do alright though as the news will start to pick up soon.

Not extreme at all, but he's not some god like figure either, which he seems to revered as by some (not aimed at you) it could be a lot worse but it could be better too.

Yep all dead simple... Painting by Numbers etc...

Well it is really, many other clubs manage it.

Infact we've rarely hit a price since SS took over that people know is a good price for the area. It's always just been OK or too high. (Apart from the family area)

To announce the card charge, which was so obvious would be unpopular. Come on, whether you agree woth it or not, it was obviously not going to go down well.

Really poor PR.

We've just gone down after a terrible season and need to get fans back on board. You need a stream of positive news not implement a silly charge.

The club haven't been good at creating a buzz.

As I've said time and time again.. "Cheap" is basically your only offering on this subject and as I've also said time and time again... "Cheap" is the last resort of a failed strategy IMHO.

Firstly, any kind of change or additional cost is likely to meet some kind of resistance. However, a few moaning old fuckers on AVFTT isn't the barometer to determine whether or not the decision to adopt a particular policy was right or wrong... Simon and his team will have an objective in mind and whether or not they meet that objective is the measure of success / failure.

The trouble with Football Fans is that they become obsessive about certain things and they struggle to take an objective view of the Club as a whole and over the longer term. There's rarely any consistency in the way that fans think either... On the one hand they want one thing, but on the other hand they want another and most of the time, they'll flip flop around depending on whichever way the wind is blowing in any case. You only have to read this thread itself and the ramblings of many of the 'Armchair Owners' to realise that most are utterly clueless...

Don’t know why they released these figures anyway with a month to go on the early bird, why not just wait till then?
To be fair most years people are asking for updates and when they do some don’t want them. 😜
Numbers will rise significantly by the end of the early bird deal.

We are the laughing stock of all lesgues. Bolton over 17,000, Preston over 11,000. Most teams double ours Inc. Leyton Orient, Chesterfield, Lincoln, Exeter. Even Morecambe have sold more in League 1 wtf😡😡😡

We'll average more than those last five clubs. Bolton are a big club and Preston are going down the cheap ticket strategy, fair play to them.

Chill out, loads of time left and it's not worth getting stressed about.

To hit a price point that resonates with fans. If any club needed to fill the stadium it's us.

It's a pretty obvious move, we dropped by 20 but then hit those who wanted a card with a ridiculous charge, making it no less in a division lower. A PR own goal.

The 30 quid was way too high last season and 26 isn't that good for a club like us in the area it's in. I think Barnsley were 23/24 quid this season.

I've gone digital. Didn't really want to but can manage. There's many more who aren't too happy with this.

It's all just obvious stuff not to do when fans need winning back after a poor season.

As for my only offering no, price isn't it, you've admitted yourself the club isn't the best at generating a feelgood factor, proce is a factor but there far more, communication with fans isn't the best, the PR, thinking outside the box with ST offerings not just price, there were tons of good ideas on here and creative things to do, we did nothing.

Other Clubs manage a better payment plan yet we somehow can't do it. Why?

Why did the club even announce this figure, all it's brought is ridicule from those who see it and compare it to theirs, wven if its at a completely different stage in sales, it's brought negativity, poor again.

The numbers at this stage are completely meaningless...

Bolton Murders - Early Bird Discount Deadline 10 April 2023
Knob End - Early Bird Discount Deadline 5 June 2023
Leyton Orient - Early Bird Discount Deadline 2 June 2023
Chesterfield - Early Bird Discount Deadline 27 April 2023
Lincoln - Early Bird Discount Deadline 4 April 2023
Exeter - Early Bird Discount Deadline 2 June 2023
Morecambe - Early Bird Discount Deadline 2 May 2023

Blackpool FC - Early Bird Discount Deadline 3 July 2023

Spot the rather obvious difference

The early bird isn't over until July 2nd, the others have had theirs.

Bolton had theirs on sale months ago and for way less, still great numbers but let's be fair ffs.

Thought the boycott days were over.
Weird nobber type comment, maybe let the early bird run its course 1st?

I’d imagine close to 4k by the deadline.
Don't be daft, it'll be more than that.

I think we're competitively priced on season tickets and we'll sell in the region of 6500, not great but not bad given our recent history.

The thing that niggles me is the own goals from the club, the £30 tickets last season, the charge being higher than other clubs this season, the membership scheme flop. We had some brilliant news with giving shirts out to kids in the local area, then I didn't hear anything of it again (admittedly I haven't been looking out for it). The players being linked to kids teams seems to have been a success, but that isn't worth much if you aren't convincing the parents to go to games.

I definitely think that the people of Blackpool are quick to find an excuse not to attend (in my experience) but I don't think the club are doing as much as they could in terms of attracting the lost generations and new fans.

Edit to add: We could also praise the club for the length of our early bird discount, for balance.

The club make it too easy for people not to go. For me last season I stopped going because it was a rip off watching inevitable defeats every week. Nothing really to do with finding excuses, fans will pay what they see fit. This season will again be difficult to part with £25 to watch Blackpool v Stevenage.

We are not doing enough to attract the casual fan which accounts for the biggest portion of our fanbase.

Poor marketing 💯 & unnecessary piss poor PR.

They’ll be announcing how many tangerine Santa hats they’ve sold in September next.

Do we have football people at the Club who understand these things and social media over-reactions?

We averaged more than that under Grayson in a poor season.

If we do alright it'll be above 10k. If we do really well it'll be even more.
Can’t really compare it to a season which has the Sadler novelty factor.

Hope you’re right but think you will be miles off.

Agreed.

There's people on here who have come up with some innovative ways to price and market match and season tickets. We all know the club monitor this place, so Sadler could do a lot worse than have a meeting with those people and listen to their ideas. Chuck in a free season ticket/signed shirt/meet and greet with manager and players for their time if they're used and everyone's a winner.

Poor marketing 💯 & unnecessary piss poor PR.

They’ll be announcing how many tangerine Santa hats they’ve sold in September next.

Do we have football people at the Club who understand these things and social media over-reactions?
The dicks on Social Media will always over-react to something though... If it wasn't this, they'd be over-reacting to the fact that "everyone else has released their ticket sales details, so why haven't we"

The key for me now is that the Club and Simon Sadler should largely ignore the crap that gets posted on Social Media and the general 'noise' that you get from Fans, regardless of what they do, and just get on with running the business how he sees fit.

The club are simply letting people know that the Early Bird Offer is still open and no doubt there will be a series of similar 'countdown' type messages planned over the coming weeks as the deadline closes in.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with what the Club are doing, it's the idiots who have the issue.... As the kids say - "haters gonna hate"..

Can’t really compare it to a season which has the Sadler novelty factor.

Hope you’re right but think you will be miles off.
They havent helped themselves with a few things, but I'm still hopeful, people aren't just going to drop the club en masse, things will ramp up soon too news wise.

We have a decent base of a squad compared to those years too. We had basically 1 trick Feeney to Gnanduillet and were very average really. We need to add some more quality clearly.

But we either keep Yates or if he goes we have big funding compared to what we had back then, in a relatively poor league 1, hopefully we'll be up there. All the relegated sides last time were in and around and some were worse than us last season.
