Mark Warburton

Surprised Neil Ardley not mentioned. Done a great job this season at Solihull particularly if they win tomorrow.

Makes me wonder how long ago Critch was first given a nudge by Stevie G this? Warburton knew well before his contract at QPR ended that it wasn’t going to be renewed, if Beale was their top target this could have been rumbling on in the background for months🤔

I must say is football is something to admire, plus he'll have a number of good contacts down south, you only have to look at how well Big Marv has done to realise they'll be a few more worth recruiting from that area, Warby could be the man to tap in to them.

60 in September he’s actually older than
Mowbray who I’ve already said is now past it.
That said he’s better than 95% of the names branded around this board.

Yes I would be reasonably happy with Warburton. Certainly one of the better options out there.

We certainly need someone who can fit in with our philosophy of developing and giving opportunities to young players, but I am not sure what his track record is in this area?

Would be a good appointment, not a bad management career, and he knows he would be given 3 or 4 years till training ground up and running, then we can look for a promising young manager for him to mentor. Mowbray too dour not an age issue
When was 60 past it

Don't think our recruitment process has been helped with Rovers and the Dingles looking for a manager. Hope we don't end up with someone who failed their interview process.

Warburton would be class-

Has experience working on a tight budget in the Championship, developing players and working to get the most out of them. And is familiar with the recruitment strategy we're implementing from his days at Brentford.

Only questions would be his wages... with him though we wouldn't have to pay a fee to sign him unlike Manning or Evatt so we could potentially afford to give him a higher wage packet.

I would be happy with Evatt but they bypassed him the first time so I'm not sure he's what they are looking for. Plus we would have to sort compensation out as well. Would he take it? I don't know but like it or not Bolton are a bigger club. The job of keeping us up or getting them promoted in my view would be equal in difficulty. So it's a tough call.
I heard Warbuton on talksport for a whole morning the other week and was very impressed with all he had to say. Sounded very grounded and he has a CV to back it all up as a very experienced manager.
Mowbray would be the other one I would be happy with. Very experienced in the championship and likes to work with young players. He's a straightforward guy who would fit perfectly with Simon Sadler and would welcome that relationship after the Venkys. People call him dour but we've just been let down massively by Critchley and his fist pumping. Mowbray will just walk straight off the pitch and want to be with his players in the dressing room not doing the laps of applause. Most of all though he's a good manager.

Totally agree either Warburton or Mowbray would be brilliant, very experienced at Championship level, but do they fit the profile that the board want ?

Can’t disagree with any of that , I’d also add Liam Manning at MK Dons into the mix - fits our mould perfectly

Just had a read through his CV which is very diverse and on the whole successful. He is very much is own man and as a Trader for 20 years must have built his own net worth to the point he works in football because he enjoys it. He would actually be the ideal candidate for a Technical/Sporting Director role at Blackpool with a younger Head Coach working under him.

However, he has been predominantly based in the South at Watford, Brentford and QPR so doubt if we would be enough of an attractive proposition to uproot to the NW England. Also, he wouldn't come cheap and would want his own people involved.

What about Thommo?

Ian Evatt a consideration? If he'd even leave Bolton....
Evatt has proved to be a good Manager, however he isn't a great manager, BWFC fans are mixed on him , he will keep Bolton up but always mid table.

He was at rangers 2015-2017 so moving up north isn't an issue..he's also experienced the Bloomfield road atmosphere this year...what's not attractive about that. Good owners aswell ,new training ground, stadium development all on the up. Also the money from villa for 5 years left on NC contract will help with wages for a few years too.

Positives for Warburton are:
his Championship experience,
reputation for developing young players,
gets the best out of older players,
probably wouldn't be looking to move again
and he favours attacking football. (I sound like his agent 😀)
Against are his age, (that's just my preference for a young manager) and possibly his unwillingness to move "up North".
