New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Pistol the Danny Boyle sex pistols six part series was brilliant.
Think it is on Disney for some bizzare reason.
It was OK, showed up what a complete ** McLarren was.
And what a shit upbringing Steve Jones had😕
Could have done without Anson Boon not sounding like Mick Jagger other than that he portrayed Rotten well.
Best actor was Sydney Chandler who played Chrissie Hynde.

Started watching Drive (from 2011) on Netflix with Ryan Gosling yesterday.

Probably okay if you like fast cars and lots of blood, but even Mr Gosling couldn’t get me to see it through 👎

Another trailer for Rings of Power - out 2nd September on Prime.

It's being criticised for being woke and for being flexible with Tolkien's timeline but hopefully this is good.

I’ll be all over that. 👍

House of the Dragon out on 21st August. GOT prequel. Looks interesting. Hope they don’t blow the ending this time. (Still annoyed.)

That‘s the one that made me cry all weekend 🥹 , so I’ll be giving Conversations with Friends a swerve and a big fat booooo !
Oh yes, I remember now, oops 🙀
Okay, so, an uplifting film for you to try if you haven’t already seen it, is Lion on Netflix. True story about a 5 year old boy in India who inadvertently falls asleep on a train and winds up thousands of miles away from his home in Calcutta and can’t pronounce correctly his home village so can’t be sent home. He’s adopted by a couple in Tasmania but as he gets older is desperate to find his biological mum…
I’ve seen it twice … it’ll probably make you cry but in a good way!!

As said - Pistol is a great watch whether you liked them or punk in general.
Slow Horses is v good series too - based on the British espionage books by Mick Heron ... Gary Oldman / Kirsten Scott Thomas.
Rogue Agent is a good movie.
And really enjoyed the film - Phantom of the Open ... Mark Rylance, funny feelgood movie, based on true story.

Another vote for Rogue Agent. Very good and based on a true story.

Went to see Where the crawdads sing at the cinema as well recently. Based on the brilliant Delia Owens novel.
I thought it was excellent although I notice some reviews have given it a good slagging off.

I have one for you all. Just buzzing around trying to find something and found Legion on Disney +, part of the Marvel Universe apparently, 3 seasons, started in 2017, very trippy and psychedelic, back story is that the main character, David is Charles Xavier's son, not that you are told that. It's set in a psychiatric hospital at the start, a lot about mental health and schizophrenia and the lead female's character is called Sad Barret, which I thought was fitting.

Really well put together, quite violent and good rating on IMDB, I'm hooked after one episode.

I saw the first series. Had to stick with it - it improved as it went along.

Starts out really well, disappears up it's own arse in S2, the cast is great though and I'll watch anything with Aubrey Plaza in it.

New trailer for the rings of power just released.

I'm nervous for this - horrible feeling it's going to box tick. Hope I'm wrong.

Any thoughts on Westworld, season 1 was great, I started season 2 but gave up, has season 3 & 4 anything going for it?

The Flight attendant season 1, just done, quite good

SPOILER ALERT Better Call Saul.. avert your eyes Season 6 below

Just getting to the last few episodes of the final Better call Saul... excellent.... however is there a timeline error?, as Im sure I saw Howard Hamlin in Breaking Bad, but he got killed mid season 6, which is before Breaking Bad starts?

Westworld - Season 3 got very futuristic season 4 much better

No mention of Hamlin in Breaking Bad. Just finished watching Saul, and it was outstanding by far the best thing I have watched since Breaking Bad. What is more amazing is that Bob Odenkirk (Saul) had a widow-maker heart attack like Glen Hoddle in the middle of filming, and they luckily had someone on set with a defibrillator with medical training, otherwise it would have never been finished. When I first watched Saul on Breaking Bad I would have never thought the character would end up as one of the great tv love stories.

Just finished Ozark. and although good, it lacked attention to the detail of Better Call Saul and kept repeating the characters doing the same shocking things over and over. It also did the same daft thing that soaps do with characters in that they suddenly switch from being experts at one job to being a master at another without any learning process. Also, major things happened such as the Byrds office being blown up at the end of an episode, yet there was no mention of it at the start of the next episode with everything back to normal. In the end, it started to remind me of a series I watched in the '70s when I was a kid called Gangsters that started as a hard-hitting gangster drama and turned into a pastiche by series 2, Ozark just became more and more far fetched the longer it went on.

the missus wanted to watch the film Thirteen Lives but i didn't fancy it. However I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

That's cute.

I understand that if you get the dishes dried in time you can watch the Tottenham game next time they are on.

Netflix release a documentary on Luis Figo's somewhat controversial move from Barcelona to Madrid tomorrow called The Figo Affair which if the trailer is anything to go by should be ace.

I watched the film 'Threads' last night. It was slightly before my time when released in 1984 on the BBC. I am sure many on this board will have watched it. It was horrifically terrifying.

Should be watched by all, even now, because it perfectly explains why Nuclear war is never the answer.

We always watch 'Shetland'.
Douglas Henshall is a great Lead.
Unfortunately he's finishing after the present series, so I don't know if there'll be any more.
Also looks like 'Tosh' (D'Tec Sergeant) has had it too, so might end the series.
The locations are fantastic.

Just watching Top Gun Maverick with a grandson, never been a fan of Tom Cruise and didn’t seen the first Top Gun but have to say I’m enjoying it.

Just revisited the Unforgotten series with Nicola Walker. Very good for terrestrial tv drama 👍

Just watched that (on Prime). Very well made.

Maybe just me but I didn't know how they actually got them out. 😲
