O/T Jordan Henderson again

Lot of virtue signalling and mock outrage here. People need to have a look at themselves
I dont think it's mock outrage for most people, it's just pointing out that he's a massive hypocrite. If you're going to preach to everyone about how inclusive you are and how much you're agaist homophobia and then happily take shit loads of money off homophobes then you're gonna get called out on it.

Agreed, if he hadn't nailed his colours so firmly to the LGBTQ rainbow mast then he would not have attracted nearly as much criticism for taking the Saudi's bloodstained coin.

Erm I've worn rainbow laces before and eeerm I've sort of got maybe someone who is gay and an uncle that is rumoured to cross-dress in me family eeeerm so it's really really upset me as I still support these communities eeeeerm even though my rainbow-wear has been grayed out on my promo clips, eeerm I also have to support the religion and human rights atrocities of the country I've gone to eeerrm not for the money, definitively not the money, eeerm I've always had an interest in Saudi football development, eeeerm that's it, leave me alone, eeerm I just want be be loved and be left to earn a shed load of money without questions even though that has never been a motivation, not ever, never ever never. Eeerm.

I agree with all the above. He's just a massive hypocrite. And he's ruined his legacy at Liverpool after captaining the team to all those trophies.
Reading comments on social media and listening to my cousins, it would appear most Liverpool fans are as unimpressed as we here.
The same would apply to Gerrard, although he didn't champion the LGBT cause like Henderson did.

just read the bbc article and yep a hypocrite of the highest order. He says it's not about the money. Well, I'm pretty certain there would have been plenty of offers from other clubs in this country who would have paid him more than a half decent salary. It's all about the money and he can't even be honest with himself about that. He must take fans for being fools.

Hypocrite indeed. A very wealthy hypocrite! Donate a million quid to their cause or whatever and that might help him a tad.
Will he wear rainbow stuff over there? Lol

Rusty, surely the Hendo love-in hasn't ended ? ;)

I've checked and can confirm I've never signed a multi million pound contract to play professional football in Saudi Arabia.
But what if you were offered it? Or any other kind of lucrative contract with Saudi connections?

All about principles. Most of us gave up 3/4 years of watching Blackpool because we wouldn't give money to the O's.
I was offered free tickets and even had corporate for Wembley but turned them all down.
I know that is buttons compared to the millions Henderson will earn but it's all about principles.
He was quick enough to get the plaudits when he was at the forefront of being an LGBTQ+ advocate and yet made the move knowing it was in direct conflict with that view.
Doesn't matter what view you hold on THAT issue, it's the fact the guy could have made millions playing anywhere but chose that country.
As others have said a complete bell end.

I can quite honestly say I would never go and live and work in Saudi ! Not for 10 million GBP 😌

I couldn’t give a sh-*t about that kind of money and I wouldn’t live anywhere where so many of its residents are treated as second class citizens, or worse in this case.

You can stick your Saudi Riyal up your arris.

It would seriously test my principles.

I'd probably get over it on the sun deck of my 62 ft Princess F-Class in Palma harbour.

Well said LaLa, there are still a few individuals on this Forum with principals 👍

Absolutely Dougall, as did a lot of us👍👏

Absolutely Lala. Well said and I’m with you. It’s hard to boycott oil / petrol as you don’t know exactly where it’s come from at the pump, however this is another level completely, and any respect I did have for him has gone.

Do not forget that Arabia has been one of the biggest slave trading areas of the world and only relatively recently banned the practice, with male slaves having been castrated even in relatively modern times.

And don’t get me started on the treatment of women.

Come on here and convince me I’m wrong!

There’s not many things that make me embarrassed to have been in the Armed Forces for 30+ years but our relationship with some in that region is up there.

Just goes to show how little he understands the people he's supposed to help to not understand that there would be a backlash. Out of touch I would say, like PMs.

Ok - who is expressing the mock outrage and virtue signalling? If you are so sure of that it shouldn’t be that hard - name names and give evidence.

I agree with your sentiment that this is easily done and quite common these days, but if we dont actually call it out it will become the norm.

As the father of a daughter, husband of a wife, son of a mother and brother to a sister I would never knowingly support their regime.

And before anyone snipes back I have said as much to one of the Bin-Saud’s who I have worked with in Defence. His response, to be fair, was to acknowledge they had a long, long way to go.

So would you sign a multimillion pound contract in Saudi if you could? I bloody would in less than a second as I suspect would you and every man Jack. Only I'd be honest enough to admit I did for the money.

'I love the gays but just not when there's a fuck ton of cash on the table errrm religious stuff and that, respect or something'

I have spent my life working within the system. Worked for 12 years under a Tory govt that I despised. Came out in the middle of all that and have always supported colleagues who felt marginalised and picked on. There always compromises but took these values through my career, and like to think I have made a difference. Have worked in Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa and other places that were way behind UK. Just because you make career decisions - some good, some bad - does not invalidate things we say or believe about other aspects of life. Give the guy a break!

Why do you suspect everyone would ?

People prioritise things in many different ways. Yes money is the main driver in life for some people, but it really isn’t for everyone.

I absolutely would not, and I think there are many people who say they wouldn’t who aren’t lying.

It does when you have actively championed something, to the point when it might have helped him in his career (subjective),then come out (excuse the pun) with a statement which shows him in his true light of a money grabbing weasel.

Remember this hard up story of him working in an environment he supposedly abhors, garners him at least £500K a week. The poor little lamb

I would absolutely take the money to secure my girls’ future …

… but not at the expense of other girls’ futures

It's very easy to take the moral high ground about something extremely unlikely to happen but reality is the kicker. I don't think anyone is lying who say they won't but that doesn't mean I believe them, fine morals butter no parsnips.
