Official Transfer Deadline Day thread…

The comparisons with the Oystons are ridiculous tbh. In three decades as owner:
1. OO never got the club to championship level while sole owner.
2. OO never gave improved deals to our best players way before their contracts ran out.
3. OO never bought land in prep to build a training centre.
4. OO never gave (as far as I can recall) 4 or 5 year contracts to good players.

SS has done all of the above in his first three years.

This transfer window has been poor and a total disappointment so far, but SS is still infinitely better than what went before. It's a bit unfair to start thinking he's another Oyston, which is what some are implying on here.

Sadler got the club on the cheap and if he got 2 mill for critch and gets 5 or 6 mill for josh he’s on his way to recoup his investment new stand and training ground is property assets I’m beginning to doubt things hope I’m wrong remember Owen Stain was a fan and we were all happy to start with when he took over
Comparing Sadler to the Oystons is not righg at all. Offensive even. Do you think Sadler has taken any money out or will do? He's incurred a lot of spending since taking over. A lot of that has been repairing Oyston damage. And there's Covid losses. And promotion and a growing wage bill. If you don't know the figures, don't make Oyston comparisons.

Completely different animals.

And that’s why football fans are some of the most fickle and thick people with very short memories. Hopefully if Sadler reads this board, he knows it’s a minority. Comparing him to the Oystons is the lowest of the low.

Yeah but he was going to do all of those things next year. Fan since he was 2 years old as well...............

Yep Sadler's done loads, not perfect but he's miles better than anyone we've had. The investment shows this, every window we've improved, this one its been loans but some real quality.

Just need a few permanent ones now, yes its been more difficult but not for the want of trying, its not like we're messing people about to pretend to sign, there's genuine issues.

But we do need to complete some.

Not saying that I’m saying when it’s ton took over he put money into the club a lot of us older fans can remember I’m not saying Sadler is the same re taking money out of the club I’m saying all these so called players we have tried to sign have gone elsewhere why and how much has been spent on players compared to money coming in I don’t want us to bankrupt ourselves but if 6 or 8 mill comes in from transfers then a good percentage should be spent on bringing in players not fuckin loans and development squad players and freebies

A lot of money has been spent since Sadler arrived.

Sadler will need a think skin with fans like ours.
I have been a Sadler supporter from day one. I have never attacked him but I have defended him on many occasions, however I am now beginning to wonder if he is regretting buying the club. I’m not one who was expecting him to go out and spend millions on players but we seem to be regressing rather than progressing. If we aren’t very careful and we do get the training ground etc. we will have the best facilities and development squad in league one.

When you buy a house or sell a house do you tell everyone how much you had bid or accepted ?

You keep your cards very close to your chest until the deal is done ….. and then you boast about how much you have made profit from the sale or how much you got knocked off the asking price ………

Is it not similar on Transfer Deadline Day ?

COYP ………. Appleton’s Tangerine Army !

We just don't really know much about the running of the club. The costs, the issues. It's just not that simple. All sorts of stuff needs paying for. The wage bill takes up a huge proportion of our income. Could you do better? I'd hazard a guess at a resounding no tbh.

The transfer window has been poor? OK no wow buys but that Poveda looks a canny loan. We've offloaded some salaries on loans which means that teams who eventually want to buy our players have to stump up some cash.

I think it's been poor. Although we have been unlucky with a couple of our signings picking up injuries so it seems even worse.

But we've been after a midfielder for a very long time now, and failed completely to get one in on a permanent which is clearly the aim. In terms of permanent players for the first team, we've signed Dom Thompson, and that's it. Which is why it's a poor transfer window in my view. Only permanent transfers will give is not only continuity but eventually (hopefully) provide funds for further signings two or three years down the line.

He has invested plenty already JB transfer will not come anywhere near close to paying him back, it might cover the losses from covid.

If i was him I'd be regretting it. Loads of ungrateful bastards with no understanding moaning away online 24/7. Thankless task really innit?

I hear you and it makes sense. I wonder though, whether there's an alternative approach that says, build a winning team based on season long loans. If you fail to progress, you don't carry the debt. If you get promoted, the future will take care of itself.

Possibly, but doing things that way comes with its own risks. For example, every year we'll have to get a new crop of loanees and hope they can play well together. It's not guaranteed they will meaning the season could be a struggle. Its offers no stability for the club and makes it much more difficult to plan ahead.

Bear in mind the loans are all from Prem clubs and won't be cheap. Saddler will still be well out of pocket since buying the club, Covid etc, and the players he has brought in, improvements to the pitch/training ground. He has put his hand in his pocket already

Kind of a disappointing end to the window, but to be fair if the club had signed a bunch of players who weren't up to standard people would have complained that the players brought in were not good enough.

They were going for quality over quantity and when the injured players get back to health we will be just fine.

I don't like that we're going to be overly reliant on loan players, but they will help solidify us this year.

I still trust in the long term vision of the club.

They were going for quality over quantity and we’ve ended up with bugger all of either.

Ok so wages on Orem loan players is normally double to treble our first team players so why when we try to sign permanent players we offer poor wages which has to be the case as they have all chosen other clubs or like Brannigan stay in a division lower somethings wrong

As I said on an earlier thread I remember being absolutely delighted with Joe Nuttall signing on deadline day! Still 30 mins for Josh to decide Blackpool better option than Greece?

Just one possible incoming? We clearly wanted a striker as we went after Simms and Bishop. We also clearly wanted a midfielder as we went after Brannagan and Dele-Bashiru. Think we are leaving ourselves a bit short. Virtue has gone which makes me think it will be a midfielder but we still don't have a striker that will score around 15 goals this season.

If our development squad dont piss the youth league this year then we should be worried, never known so many youth team signings 😂

I reckon SS put 4-6 million in each season through Covid, plus spent another 2-3 million undoing the neglect on the stadium and training ground.

All in I think SS has probably put in about £20 million to be where we are now.

And for that I thank Simon Sadler for what he has done.

With Brannagan he repeatedly said in previous windows he was happy at Oxford and we didn't read the signs. We made him an offer and it seems like Oxford were forced to match it to keep him. He wanted to stay and we didn't do anything wrong.
With Bishop we agreed terms but it seems something came up in the medical. I know Simms was a loan signing but we made an acceptable offer, he just chose a bigger club. Disappointed we didn't sign Scully but I think we will be OK when our injured midfielders come back.
