OT - Where is the best Indian takeaway...

Not been to Blue Diamond for ages as it got a slating on the food hygiene ratings & I notice they don't display any still. Have used Shaplia Spice & Baby Kingfisher & they are ok. Last really good one I had was in Colne during the blues festival.

Twisted Indian Street food is very highly rated in Blackpool town centre, Came top of the list in the Gazette.

Indian orchard on Devonshire road.

Gemma used to be good, imli, both st annes. The first one used to deliver free to South shore as it was within the 3 miles.

Anyone tried the east 4 west almost opposite twisted Indian Street food on Clifton Street?

Where do you recommend?
I'm struggling to be honest, Shapla Spice is OK, average really. We used to love Baby Kingfisher but the quality seemed to slip a bit, then the prices went ridiculous, what used to cost me and the Mrs 29 quid went upto £42 overnight 😳😂

Zest Of India is Lea Raj rebranded, same family etc but they changed the name and registered as a different owner due to getting a bad reputation and poor food hygiene score, its a shame as Lea Raj was excellent in its day. Blue Diamond I've not been to for years to be fair, when we were last there it was dreadful, watery, bland food, I like to give places another chance after a while so was going to go again until I saw a common theme with their hygiene rating. Ruchi was poor when we had it 7/8 months ago.

I see a lot of decent reviews of East 4 West but also the odd bad one, not tried it myself yet though. Twisted Indian and Masala the same, get rave reviews but it's not your typical Indian, Curries aren't their main thing, Masala was amazing but not been since the ownership changed. Indian Orchard used to be good but its a bit out of the way for us so not been for years, same with Gemma in St Anne's.

Ive never understood the takeaway culture apart from when in my 20s and on the lash. Like Blood says buy yourself an Indian cook book and make your own. What will surprise some is that proper Indian food is nothing like the tikka massalla style, unhealthy fake drivel that you've been eating, It's made up nonsense. Ditto Chinese food. All full of E numbers, rammed with salt and sugar it's no wonder people are overweight. If you like the tikka massalla experience buy a Lloyd Grossman sauce, chicken and boil some rice and in 30 mins you've made it. Far cheaper, healthier, you know the source of the chicken, and know its been cooked in a healthy environment free of cockroaches and mice.

Surely the trend now is to cook your own in one of those air fryers?🧐

I have a really nice one where i live in Prestatyn if anyone is ever in North Wales

Suhail family run and fantastic

I have several Indian cook books. The most straightforward is by Madhur Jaffrey. She makes things doable.
The most difficult is 50 curries of India by Camelia Panjabi. They are all home made curries - as opposed to restaurant fare. I've tried several but they all end up being very thin and very hot.

All his cook your own is nonsense as i very much doubt people have a tandoori clay oven at home

If cooking your own means buying a sauce and pouring it over some meat then crack on
Agree. And from what little I know curries and the spices therein need to simmer for hours and hours.

Furthermore jars of sauces are rank. Never had one I thought tasted of authentic curry.

Anyone tried taj mahal?

Here's some lists of best ones apparently.

Bippins, possibly the worse Indian takeaway I've ever had, but after a skinful of ale anything was tasty I guess.

The abuse that pleasant young Asian guy suffered was beyond a joke, and he never once responded, at least not that I'm aware of.
Wasn’t he Bippin? I seem to remember he used to wear a “my name is Bippin” badge and the real name of the takeaway was something like “India” but everyone called it Bippin’s?

I have never tasted chicken anywhere else, before or since, that tasted anything like their chicken. It was dreadful and only edible after 10 pints.

It does make me chuckle how Chinese and Indian cuisine are pigeon holed in a few fake dishes. China pop 1.5 billion eating egg fried rice, sweet and sour slop, green pepper in black bean sauce slop. I went to Hong Kong in 97 to a restaurant where I was the only westerner, it was the most bland stuff I've ever tasted, zero flavour or sauces added. India pop 1.4 billion all scoffing Bhuna slop, tikka slop. Pakistan pop 230 million, Bangladesh (a high % of restaurants are owned by Bangladeshi folk) pop 168 million ditto. It's fake as it comes, I worked in Audley Range Blackburn for 3 years inspecting properties. This area is almost exclusively Asian trust me they don't eat this shit, its slopped up for western tastes.

My house every weekend - all organic and fresh ingredients - every guest I have ever had has wanted pay for it and wantsthirds

Living in St Annes, I've tried most of the ones in South Shore. Ruchi used to be good, but isn't any more. Zest is overpriced and tasteless. Shapla is nothing special.
I've recently discovered Eastern Bay in St Annes, and it's really very very good. If you can cope with the extra travel time (get an insulated bag) it's worth the effort, trust me.

I bought one for Maxnix by Nisha Katona. He’s made a couple of the didhes and said they were amazing.

But people like the 'unhealthy drivel'.

I completely agree with you by the way most of the time, all curries are easy to make with some spices and yoghurt, but sometimes an unhealthy takeaway just hits the spot.

Gemma is excellent my go to curry house
Indeed it is excellent as a takeaway as is the Imli. The problem with both, if you are eating in, they put the emphasis on getting the takeaways out before paying sit down diners. I stopped eating in at both of them for a considerable time because of this.

The Imli on one visit we were sat there sipping our drinks for an hour and watched carrier bag after carrier bag go out for delivery. The cheeky buggers asked if we'd like to "buy" another drink whilst we waited! That really pissed me off. 😡
