Portsmouth v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 25.11.23

The Portsmouth "stonewall penalty" they claimed was just a player running into Kenny Dougall and going over. Not stonewall at all, a speculative shout at best. No team would want it given against them and no pen all day for me.

Also Beesley not even offside or so close you can't tell.

I think the keeper (and crowd) were calling offside based on the player to the left in the picture and missed that the defender on the right was playing Beesley onside.

I have a lot of time for Huddersfield Town. Spoke to a Huddersfield Town fan. He is at Barclays on the phones. He was saying they wouldnt mind having him back. I definitely think it will happen.

I live just outside Huddersfield and they definitely want him back! They think he's the answer to their relegation worries.

Plenty of positive pre match comments on here. I wasn’t confident at all and didn’t expect that result.

Bloody magic.

What a day for those that went to the game👏👏👏👏👏

I really cant blame them. And if Rhodes goes back match sharp for them then both clubs have benefited. And if he gets a couple more goals for us. great. Staying in the Championship is a tough ask. JUST hope we join the party 24/25 season.

See post#10 on thread titled’from Pompey forum’ then tell me once again you were stating a fact. Weirdo.
Fair enough, everyone at the time thought it was offside. However, the main point I was making was that Portsmouth were on top and they looked like scoring. For some reason that seem to trigger people when it was the truth.

Portsmouth were ‘on top’ when exactly?

They had a decent enough spell in the first half after we scored, but Blackpool were resilient. I’m not sure you could go away and win at the league leaders and not expect to come under fire at some point.

We regained control before the half time break and we can out in the second half and we were on top until we scored the perfectly good goal that you had gleefully claimed ti be offside. They then had a short spell of pressure (which we soaked up admirably) and the frustration got the better of them, leading to the red card.

After that it was an absolute textbook display of how to play 11 v 10 by Blackpool and we drilled home our advantage even more.

They were well on top and looked like scoring. They were getting huge joy on the wings and we resorted to hoof ball. Half time came at a good time.

That's all I was saying. We rode it out and had a bit of luck. If people can't see the bad patches, it's no wonder they are never disappointed and full of beans.

The ref and liner didn’t think it was and they are the ones who count. The point I was making, as I said at the time, is it doesn’t matter what we think, it was given. Also, as I said, the terrible decisions which have gone against us this year, even if it was offside, its time we had one in our favour.

They were on top and looked like scoring when ?

Towards the end of the first half. Everyone could see it, even Critchey, so why can't you?
I just said in my previous post that they had a decent spell in the first half. It wasn’t at the end of the first half though. The had us under pressure for a good 10 Minute spell immediately after we scored and then a further spell of a few minutes up to the 30 minute mark. We did have to ride out that period of pressure and it's to be expected that they would react to going a goal behind. However we defended well and dealt with them. Blackpool probably had the better of the possession after the 30 minute mark and things kind of petered out for half time.

So what is your point?

Nothing. I am defending myself as people got their knickers in a twist with me saying Portsmouth looked like scoring for a spell in the second half. People couldn't wait to highlight it after the result which is fantastic but slightly strange as I was speaking the truth at that particular point of the match.

I thought you said it was in the first half?

And do you really think they looked like scoring? They were building a bit of pressure for certain and you definitely got that "They're going to score in a minute" kind of feeling, but you always get that really whenever you get put under pressure. As I said, I think that's what the Red Card was about in the end really, because we pretty much soaked up everything they had.... Barring the mis-hit that he sliced towards goal, Marv was absolutely imperious all afternoon.... Ultimately you have to defend as well as attack in football and on the day we outperformed them significantly in every department..

Just spoken to a Pompey fan at work. He was big enough to admit the best team on the day won. And then moaned about their injury "crisis" with 5 players missing.
