Sending asylum seekers to Rwanda

When you hear news like this you need to check that it isn't the 1st April or a spoof Private Eye story.

How practical and sustainable this "initiative" is remains to be seen but I'm sure it will be popular with a certain demographic.
 
The Danes do something similar and have also signed an agreement with Rwanda. I don't know if any are sent there in practice.

Still feels bizarre though. The numbers arriving are still very small compared to other European countries and we have a labour shortage. I wonder if sub-Saharan Africans can go straight to the Rwandan centres and miss out the getting-to-Kent bit. :)
 
Maybe they could send some lwnjs to Cuba. Then Wiz would have plenty more to moan about especially as the internet connection there is decidedly patchy.🤣👍🇬🇧
 
How will it stop the people traffickers making a fortune? Will it be a case of cutting out the middleman, . Do not pass Calais go straight to Rwanda

The numbers arriving here are still very small compared to other European countries, correct. We are also, in land mass terms, very small compared to other European countries.

Does land mass matter, especially compared to Scandinavia (for example) where half of it is virtually inhabitable?

It matters when immigrants illegal or otherwise all want to be in the major cities. I don’t know if they want to live for example in the highlands of Scotland or on dartmoor.

But it's the same for other countries which is my point, they're not living in huts out in the Fjords.

Obviously it's more populated than Pakistan as half of that is the Himalayas, which again is my point.

But how much of Britain's fertile landmass will be used up to create the necessary reservoirs etc to cater for an increased immigrant population, never mind the increase by birthrate of the current inhabitants? How many more villages would you be prepared to put under water?

We've not put a village under water since the early 60s despite there being 20 million more people here since then.
 
Is everyone all of a sudden not bothered about borders and sovereignty again, or at least until the tea time news comes on and we’re back on Ukraine.

If the utility companies got their arses in gear and actually maintained the network instead of paying dividends, there would be billions of gallons not leaking away like now.

Edit: Latest figures say 3 billion litres a day. A day, FFS

Fair point, not long ago we were living in a “pariah state...plague island...” food banks everywhere... abject poverty...health services in tatters,soon to be only available for the wealthy... need I go on😁

If they stopped the free benefits nhs and housing that would deter the illegals from leaving the safety of France and coming here.The human right lawyers will be making thousands with all the court cases to come.

And there's never been a higher rate of covid in the populace, the health service has the highest waiting lists its ever had and there's never been as many going to food banks. So yes, you need to look at the facts.
