Bristol Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.01.23

Great win, midfielder start then scrappy. For me, we need a defensive midfielder in the window. We need to maintain possession much better and control the game. Shame Kenny is going, we have to replace him.
If Kenny is going then Morgan or virtue in there can / could do the job, both have the energy, they are both combative, can pick a pass, both with good awareness. Not sure who we could even find with the relevant experience and ability that would be better than Dougs, Virtue or Morgan.

thought Morgan had a really good disciplined game today, didnt get forward as much, lots of covering interceptions and always in the thick of the play in the middle of the park.

At least the Dream Is Still Alive as some dodgy German band might have penned.

Best I've seen Joseph. Midfield needs something a bit different.
KayJo?!

No excuse for the gaff not to be rocking next week against Charlton. 3 league wins on the bounce, and an away win finally - we seem to be hitting that 2nd half of the season form we needed to get promoted. They're doing their bit now, it's time to do ours.

If Appleton hasn't been sacked it certainly adds another dimension. Still remember the fucker gesturing towards us when Charlton equalised at their place. Hope he gets a classic Bloomfield Road welcome!
Think he will be gone before or just after our game, Charlton friend saying they hate him already with a passion, were expecting to at least sniff the playoffs but feel Like season over already

cannot see how morgan only got 5, he was all over the pace one of those performances that is solid where hes working for the team, nothing standout but did a good job unlike the player next to him who was a passenger the whole game, and still manages a 0.5 better rating - dont think so.

Well that was a good away performance. We were quickly out of the traps and scored a good goal caused by pressing high and then a good finish.

We continued to dominate and deservedly scored a second well worked goal with a cool finish.

After that we were cruising until a goal out of nothing as a flick went up and over O'Donnell to get them back into the game.

Suddenly we were all over the place and it took a good block from ODonnell to keep us ahead and then similar from Hamilton who got a great late block in to prevent a shot on goal.

Half time came at a good time for us.

Second half was scrapper, but they didn't have the same threat as the first half. Crosses came in but we dealt with them fine.

The subs didn't put us on the back foot as feared. Lavery harassed and maybe should have done better after going round the keeper. My nerves could have done with another goal, but ultimately we saw it out OK.

I thought Joseph had a great game, constantly causing them problems and Morgan was putting some great balls through.

Inevitably we tired after Wednesday nights efforts but a good three points.

Onwards and upwards.

CJ scored a goal from a tough position, ran his socks off defended well, caused them lots of problems when he moved up front. Not sure what the fuck you're talking about.
Can’t trap a bag of cement, scared to tackle or head majority of time and gives possession away more often than not. Was playing well up until signing his new contract but has since reverted back to type e.g. a 6ft Bambi/Forest Gump.

Opinions mate.

If I watch the game again not one of my ratings would be the same I suspect.

Of course we would but it wasn't us and I thought their player deliberately made contact and took a tumble and it was outside the box.
But apart from that, nailed on. At the time in the ground I was a bit worried as late shouts away from home often go against us, but even then I thought it outside the area.

Alternatively got a whack in the face leading to a nosebleed winning a header, got a tremendous tackle in when their lad was clean through on goal, blocked a whole series of crosses coming in and scored a worldie, while having the away end sing his name.

Other than that, reverted to type, whatever that was.

When fans look at a set of fans and try to judge how many there are there they are probably always under estimating,if you actually go and take a couple of mins you will be surprise how many are actually there!

Wasn’t confident with our away form. Too soon to say we’re putting a bit of a run together? Just need to beat Crappleton’s latest team next week.

Let's remember we played today after going to extra time with Forest, so some will be more knackered than they were, also had to travel.

Bristol rovers are no mugs, fairly decent side. They've lost once all season at home apparently, which I didn't actually know going into it, or care tbh as we just needed to win.

But it does show you we did well after the above factors and we were the better side overall.

2nd half we shut them out and could have got another with a few decent chances.

We also had Rhodes not as his best, he's having a little dry spell where its not quite happening for him.

So to win under all the circumstances was very good, but needed.

he was shite, no way it was a pen - a) outside the box and b) that Daley fella would have been proud of the half twist double pike that he performed.
If that went against us you and many others would be screaming all day long for a pen.

The ref was most certainly not a Homer today read the Bristol Rovers board and you’ll soon see why.

we scored first today and early too. I think it reasonable to say that that has been a key factor in all our away performances this season. Failure to do that has led to some pretty abysmal away performances.

I got binned out of a whatsapp group form saying exactly this about the man

I've said it for a few years now

He clearly has nudes of Mrs Critchely and holds him to ransom each week

BBC report says that’s first time we’ve won 3 in a row this season but also only our 3rd win of the season. Feel after forest game and how many games they’ve had these players definitely do have character cos it’s been doubtful at times

I was 100 yards away and could see it was outside the area.

He had a spell in the second half where they got free kicks for the slightest contact while Dembele and Joseph were taken out at the thigh and he played on.
