Deadline Day Thread

I do yes. But my concern would be that with the early kickoff of the Tinpot Trophy, there is still a couple of hours after that has finished for anything to get done. Usually on a match night, I'd expect everything to be confirmed as over with attention on the game but just that bit longer for anything to happen with this competition.

But to caveat once again, KR isn't very good at hiding when he is annoyed/angry etc and he certainly would be if there was a deal currently at this moment live and likely to be done.
One of the problems we have is that no-one actually knows how wealthy our owner is. Personally, I'd be surprised if we paid the figure that seemed to be what you were asking for a league one player. We seem to have some funds though clearly, as we've already spent £700k today.

Brannagan not happening?

Not sure what people’s idea of ‘quiet’ or ‘not quiet’ is based on, but fairly sure they’ve not got their ears to the wall of the offices at Bloomfield Road…

Remember Embleton coming in on the final hour of the last transfer deadline day? It going quiet since our other singings means nowt

Brannagan looks like it's off.

No shame in trying and not a massive blow since we have Wintle, Ward, and Dougall, but would have been nice because the lad is quality.

Hopefully we go back in for Dale.

Robinson on Brannagan on Radio Oxford just now

Confirms significant bid turned down for CamBran. Deadline given to that club about what offer we'd accept. CamBran excited about this season with us. Knew he wasn't going anywhere by Sunday night based on conversations taken place with player and board. Fully expect bids in January. KR doesn't see anything changing before 11pm on that situation. Board going to bed.

We haven't got much in that position, Dougall, Wintle and an injury prone Stewart. Connolly and James as back up. Ward won't be involved for a long time. Antwi and at a push Carey probably aren't ready to start regularly. Maybe need to look elsewhere if Branagan isn't happening.

Gutted about this now , it’s a player we need
I know two right backs have signed and we’re needed and can’t fault the board on this
but we are lacking in other areas , Center mid especially , but there’s hopefully time to get one in hopefully 🙏

Seriously how much do we think this Branagan is really worth, and how does he compare to our current midfield, just not sure about this one🤔
He's a very good player, before Ward's injury I wouldn't have been overly fussed about paying that sizs of fee but we do need a little bit extra. Maybe Wintle will fill that void but he isn't in the same class as Brannagan.

It’s unlikely but I’m not 100% convinced this deal is dead. KR could have ruled it out in his first interview… but didn’t. Oxford could have named him on the bench at least… but haven’t. There’s still time left in the window, if the player is sold KR can say he’s done all he can and leave it down to the powers that be at Oxford. He literally can’t say anything other than what he has in the build up to the game. Thorniley also not being in the squad seems somewhat of a coincidence…. Perhaps he’s also busy in negotiations.

It’s unlikely but I’m not convinced it’s a dead deal. Far from it. KR is known for being full of crap after all.

Nah mate it looks like it's dead

He's a good player, but should we be forking out a seven figure fee for a midfielder that our current midfielders got the better of last season? I'd like us to sign him, but not at the prices they're asking for, we can make better use of the money.

Exactly, I'd rather us get a loan from a prem team given the money that was potentially being offered.

Having said that... it ain't my money and I'm not gonna pretend to know as much as NC!

We always play the young lads in the Pizza trophy rather than risk key players.
Brannagan and Thorniley also only played 45 minutes between them across two league cup games. Key players don't get risked.

They can ring whoever now - the board are in Asia and will be nice and tucked up.

Who does everyone think we need??

2 more for me - a target man & a creative mid/winger

think we will be okay regardless of any more incomings tbf

We’ve seen our fair share of key players leave over the years when told it wasn’t happening and have been lied to by owners and managers.

Leave me with hope it happens elsewhere too ! 😂

Ah well. If Brannagan doesn’t want to push through a move to: a bigger club, with a better fan base, for more money, in a higher division - I don’t want him.

Some Oxford fans getting very above their station as well because they’ve made a good start to the season, forgetting they’ve lost their nerve in the playoffs 2-years running.

I wouldn’t read much into that. Only 1 player who started on Saturday is in the 17 tonight & that’s the keeper on the bench.

I said in the other thread yesterday that of all the players we’ve sold to Championship clubs over the last 5-6 years (12 that I can think off the top of my head that have gone to the Champ) the going rate has been £1.5m-£2m with clauses on top, so not surprised that’s what we want as a minimum. The only time it’s fallen below that has been when it’s out of our control (release clauses, end of contract etc).

That said, this is football, if you made a crazy bid in the next few hours something could change I guess.

A lot of them saying we’re arrogant on their forum but seem to forget that a couple of their fans came on here yesterday and basically called us tinpot. Embarrassing by them.

Wasn’t arsed about them before but now I’m of the opinion that they’re a non league club, punching above their weight with a lying scouse tosser as a manager.

I'm delighted with Sterling and Gabriel, don't know much about Wintle but good cover following Ward's injury. I still feel we need a little something extra in the midfield, clearly Critchley does to. Hopefully the club can pull a rabbit out of their hat.
