France Again (you couldn’t make it up)

I knew Brexit would stir up trouble again in Northern Ireland but didn't see us going to war over Jersey. Brexit, the gift that just keeps giving.

What are they going to do, blow the seventy French fishing boats out of the water? This is what the French do, they stick up for what they believe. Protest is in their DNA. A French Government minister has made a stupid remark that the British press have seized upon and all of a sudden, some people start saying the French have declared war. What a load of shite!
 
Is the EU, this holier than thou organisation which endlessly propounds the principles of human rights and fairness, really going to allow one of its members to cut supplies of heat and power to a small island where its actions will put lives at serious risk? Surely, this can only be described as a dangerous act of terrorism.

Lots of French fishing vessels now in the harbour at St Helier, not sure how this is going to end up but it’s very concerning.

So one side declares an intention to peacefully sail into Jersey waters and later to return back to French ports, and the other side send in war ships with canon and guns. You believe the peaceful sailors are the aggressive ones?

A common theme since Brexit is that you always blame everybody else for all the trouble Brexit is bringing the UK. Brexit made enemies of friends, put up barriers where none existed, attempted (but failed) to put selfishness before unselfishness and has now caused countless problems for our country and you still try to stick up for it.

Tv news just been showing one of the ‘peaceful’ French boats ramming one of ours. The French boat should be boarded and siezed.

If that idiot of a president wasn't threatening switching the electricity off or indeed 100 trawler skippers and crew weren’t threatening a blockade then the two warships wouldn’t be there and we wouldn’t be discussing it would we?

That’s why I’am blaming the French how the he’ll can anyone blame us here? (Apart from you obviously)

It’s clearly an act of aggression and even if you can’t see it I’am pretty dam sure 99.9% of others can.

Can you imagine the stink if 100 British Trawlers sailed in to Dunkirk or Dieppe harbours what the reaction would be? And that’s not even threatening switching any electricity off.

Seriously open your eyes and for once stand by your so called country.
 
No 10 sends 2 naval ships to "monitor the situation" that will show them snail eating froggys who's boss (not) 😉

If the issue has anything to do with fishing, Boris will throw Jersey under the bus, just as he did with the the UK fishing industry.

Take another step back and you will see it is Brexit that has caused this issue which is a British made problem.

Jersey is so close to France that it is swimmable from the mainland. So if France said you couldn't fish off Blackpool because they owned Knott End, you'd sit back and think it was OK?
 
Genuine question, as the Channel Islands weren't members of the EU and are not members of the UK why have they introduced post Brexit restrictions and new licensing arrangements?

It does however mention that a French warship is also heading for Jersey

It's all part of the weird and wonderful make up of the 'United' Kingdom in that they aren't apparently part of the UK and weren't allowed to vote in the EU referendum but then are British when it comes to water even though the island isn't in the British Isles, whilst they apparently rule themselves but can't defend themselves (where's Bergerac when you need him?).

Anyone would think it was just being kept as a tax haven for the British rich. You really can't make it up.

Media outlets saying that French trawler men are there to protest. Clearly you have other sources. Mind you, BBC have just corrected info re French warships, apparently police and admin vessels so who knows

Having just listened to the Jersey fishermen's spokesman, it seems that the French have no legal basis for their actions. Wind farms have removed much of the French fishing grounds and they believe they are entitled to exploit those of Jersey in greater numbers. They feel their rights are being restricted and the new licensing system doesn't give them the freedom to fish they had before. French boats must prove they have previously fished in Jersey waters to get a licence issued by Jersey. I feel some sympathy for the French fishermen, but you can't have government ministers making threats like the French have.

I don't share your osterrich head-in-the-sand view. It's problem after problem, most of which could be removed by re-entering the Single Market. Standing by and letting the UK slide deeper ino trouble is not for me.

No, certainly not made up. On GMB several times this morning. Two French vessels harassing a local one as it came in to dock. One hit it once and then seemed to go for it again before local craft evaded.
 
No doubt BHOK was firmly behind Iceland during the of wars.

And no doubt he shared the same views that our Trawlers shouldn’t have been protected by the RN.
