Let’s hope this local lady is found safe

Just sat wondering if the police etc have searched the caravans that are on the caravan park which is relatively close to where she went missing. Just a though ?
First thing I thought of. There’s a campsite and caravan area literally in the next field. And the approach is from below and behind the bench. Why would they be checking out an abandoned house over the other side of the river? There’s also wooden rental lodges easily accessible from 2 fields over. Also, I’d be surprised if the nearest house with free range hens doesn’t have some form of CCTV, given it’s proximity to a public right of way.

Good thought Michelle.
Military & Police searches are very thorough.
The area will be the subject of a detailed search plan & that will include gardens, outbuildings & unoccupied properties. Occupied properties will only be searched if evidence leads to that location.

To be honest I feel a lot of this thread is a bit unsavoury. Speculation without any knowledge is poor form and rather than post ideas on an obscure internet thread it would be more useful to contact the police.
I don’t think you and recid live locally so maybe it’s not as much on your radar as it is for a lot of us, especially those like Neil who live particularly close.

I get the impression we are all genuinely concerned for this lady and feel for her family and our speculation isn’t tawdry gossip, more a desire to know what has happened and a hope that she is found safe and well, and soon.

We as a family go on that walk at least half a dozen times a year. It's a beautiful walk. It's quite normal for people to discuss a local issue. Especially one as tragic as this. Ignore the internet trolls. Lambasting people for commenting yet they've clearly read it all AND commented themselves. Pathetic. Cheap kicks out of stirring the pot.

🙄 The o/p was fine - people feeling sad about the disappearance of a local woman. But to turn it into a game of feckin cluedo or a parody of some Netflix murder drama is pathetic, imo.

Wrong.

This is very much of local interest.
And it's nothing compared to some of the stuff online.

I googled for the latest news earlier today and spotted a US based site of gaupers - or "true crime fanatics" if you like - who post their theories on any and every ongoing crime investigation that takes their fancy.
Any bit of new info is seized on and subject to a torrent of speculation.
The thread on this case now has over 1,000 posts.

Some people have far too much time on their hands.

My cousin lives local and walks her dogs there every day... not now, she’s genuinely scared...🙁

Tbh this site is pretty similar to her Facebook page which is still open and her friends are commenting / updating people.

What irks me slightly is how / why the Police inspector was so quick to dismiss the abduction theory.
Now it’s looking less likely she’s ended up in the river.
Also, that thorough search of the abandoned house - what a red herring. There’s no way anyone is going to be wading across that section of the river to grab her, especially as it’s directly in view of the bench.
If someone has taken her, it would have been entrance and exit from behind or the side.
So from the campsite or a little track which leads to the main road. They all come out at roughly the same point. There must be some houses with CCTV or Ring doorbells in the vicinity, people and vehicles within a narrow timeframe of less than an hour. That’s what they should be focusing their effort on, imo.

Neil, sorry to go off at a tangent, but is that `The Old House` on the river bend, and is it really abandoned?

On a more general note, I can only add my voice to those who pray for a successful outcome, and that she is reunited soon with her children.

That’s what they are suggesting. Think it’s got an owner. Google Earth has vehicles parked outside, so it might be a ‘project’ too far. It’s a big house, that’s for sure.

Sarcasm is completely unnecessary on this serious & upsetting subject.
Very poor form that.
Agreed. I was under the impression that the police rely more and more on social media sites to raise awareness of missing persons and to seek any additional information that can be gleaned. Surely any assistance or information provided in this very worrying case would be welcomed …

🙄 Tangerine Neil called it right, gawpers with too much time on their hands

….. and he’s been checking out Google earth for clues

Lala, you had me at tawdry gossip

Why did the dog not follow her ?
It’s a very good question? this is baffling. One if our drivers went past very close to this spot at around 7.40am - I’ve even checked the vans dash cam to see if I can see anything, just on the off chance. Truly upsetting this - someone doesn't just vanish

And you’re entitled to your opinion.

I’m happy to continue to discuss this local news event whilst praying for a happy outcome.
Everyone hopes for a happy outcome LaLa. I think Recidivist’s point is that we could probably do with a fewer amateur Sherlocks.

Anyway. I hope the lady is found safe and sound.

Considering going there at the weekend to see if any of the houses down Allotment Lane have got CCTV or Ring doorbells.

It’s now coming out that her phone, the dog lead and harness, were actually found on the floor between the bench and the river, and not the bench, like the reports originally stated.

This is quite a big national news story now so it’s not surprising there is a lot of traffic on this thread, and elsewhere on the web.
Things looking very bad to be honest.

It's people thinking out loud which is quite normal in circumstances like this & more so because it's close to home. I'm pretty sure the police & emergency services will have done all the obvious things & many many more. Let's face the facts we only know the information that's been officially released & everybody is hoping for an increasingly unlikely happy conclusion. 🤞

The police have now cordoned off the towpath and bench where Nicola was last believed to be. They have also sent divers back into the river and boats I’d have thought this would have been done at the very start of the search last Friday to stop any evidence being compromised.

They seem adamant she hasn’t been taken or attacked( what makes the police so sure about this) Also saying no evidence of a slip or a fall.

All very strange, isn’t it?
If you take her friends and family’s insistences that she didn’t have any mental health issues and her recent planning for future events, it rules out the 3 main explanations for her disappearance.
Obviously, mental health issues are often well hidden from those that are closest, and just because the Police say there’s no evidence of foul play doesn’t mean that that isn’t the case.
Her family must be going through hell. I suppose their best hope is that she’s been having issues and took herself off. There’s still hope, and fingers crossed that it still can come to a welcome conclusion.
🙏

Police now looking for a potential witness spotted on CCTV apparently.
Another dog walker, a lady in a red coat aged about 45 with a small white dog.
Not a lot to go on for them is there really.

I would imagine that the number 1 witness is her own dog. Super intelligent animals. It's unfortunate the person who found it was unaware of the situation as the dog may have been giving out clues, especially if agitated.

I just can’t imagine that she’d leave her pet dog off the lead though and at risk.. 😔

The police response just seems like all they are considering is that she’s gone in the water, which does make you wonder what they actually know that we aren’t privy too.

Drove through St Michaels twice today both this morning and late this afternoon.

Loads of police presence still in the village and there was a large truck with the Cheshire Police force underwater search team on the side and several officers in wetsuits and diving gear.

Still lots of public out searching for her which is very good to see but the longer this goes on I feel it’s going to be bad news.

No evidence she went down to the river. Dogs haven’t found anything. If she was in the river I doubt she would get beyond the weir. The dog was bone dry. She was a good swimmer. Apparently in good mental health.
Everything points towards abduction tbh, so unless the Police know something we don’t, I can’t understand their obsession with searching the river. The campsite and neighbouring track would be basically the only easy way in & out without being spotted.

I’m not sure she has been abducted and neither do the Police given whats still going on on the river a week after she went missing.
The river banks though St Michaels are very steep and should anyone slide down them and end up in the water you’re not getting out for some considerable distance down stream.
We’re in the depths on winter (January as it was then) the water is freezing cold good swimmer or not you’ll soon start suffering from hypothermia and panic starts to set in.

She had no reason to go down to the river. It’s pretty steep around there but it’s full of that Himalayan balsam, so I doubt you’d end up in the river (unless extremely unlucky). The steepest parts are around the river bend, on the church side of the river.

Are you a dog whisperer…? 😁

But what if the Dog went down the bank?
She went down to get it back and then slipped but her Dog made it back to the path?
Everything is possible.

Of course that’s a possibility but even our slightly podgy shih tzu could get up and down the bank at that spot.
Sure I read they hadn’t found any tracks down the bank…

That’s fair enough.
But like I said earlier the number of police specialist divers I saw today on the river tells me they still think she’s gone in to the river.
Lancashire fire brigade also searching on the river in ribs/inflatables.
