My grandad used to own the Illawalla nightclub. He owned the Thornton Lodge pub at the time as well, it was called the Buccaneer when he had it.illawalla.
Used to walk down from the Bay Horse pub just before closing time as queues to get in were massive back then.

Loved the Queens, walked round from the Dolphin after a night their.Going way back to the late 60's The Queens at Cleveleys was a great night out. I remember when the pirate radio ships were spreading around the coast and Radio Caroline came from the North Sea to the Irish Sea just between the IOM and Blackpool. They had a night at the Queens with all the DJ's from Radio Caroline. You could always tell if there was trouble, all the waiters would drop their tin trays and sort the problem out between them.
I see it's been a while since you’ve posted, but I just want to ask—does anyone remember that brief revival of The Tache before it shut for good? I’m trying to piece together what places were open late 90s vs early 2000s. Some nights are a bit blurry, so it'd be great to jog the memory with others. Also, did anyone ever go to club nights upstairs at Rumours?
The Tache moved to above the Rose and Crown (the old Cotton Club) Was never the same and actually I didn't like it at all.I see it's been a while since you’ve posted, but I just want to ask—does anyone remember that brief revival of The Tache before it shut for good? Regency club a different class of a dive .
Back in the late seventies we had a right rough crew of Seasiders that went there, I remember there was a coach party of 50 Nobenders in one night, they came second in the ensuing brawl, that's how good a fighting mob we had in there.back in the 70's the club above Jenks/Rumours was called Revolution. And yep often went in there on a friday night as well as the 007.

In the 70's the club above Jenks was known as Papa Jenks. The ground floor, which had live bands, was Mama Jenks. The basement was known as Lucy's Bar and was one of the first gay bars in Blackpool. Rumours/Revolution came later and may have been the very back end of the 70's.back in the 70's the club above Jenks/Rumours was called Revolution. I still like the Galleon, although I don’t get in that often ( in normal circumstances) I find that there is no edge to the place .

Kevin Jon was the dj for a while and Smokey did a summer season just before they broke into the chartsIn the 70's the club above Jenks was known as Papa Jenks. Did you work the door at Maccy's nightclub, Old woolworths store in town.Hadley, we must have crossed paths a few times, these were my haunts too.
discussed this recently on here. Don't think it was Smokie. The band who did the summer season were called Smokestack. And there doesn't seem to be any link to the band Smokie.Kevin Jon was the dj for a while and Smokey did a summer season just before they broke into the charts
Dermot and his wife Carol had stix for a while before it shut, He later took over Rhythm Dome in the mecca building, Dermot son lost part of his finger 1 night in stix trapped in the door.Anybody remember Stix ?
Now that was a proper dive quickest I've ever pulled didn't even get served and was straight back to her place.
Because we were all animals. We used to call it the zoo.
I worked at Jenks circa 1972. Band then was Rainbow Cottage who morphed into Smokie I think.discussed this recently on here. Don't think it was Smokie. The band who did the summer season were called Smokestack. And there doesn't seem to be any link to the band Smokie.
brilliant memory. That's the name. Not sure they morphed into Smokie though. But there's another thread where this has been discussed recently [just search Smokie]. Rainbow Cottage always finished their set with a version of Seen All Good People [Yes] and pretty sure they all wore red flares.I worked at Jenks circa 1972. went a couple of times. brilliant.Sadly left Thornton when I was 15 so never had the pleasure
Got barred from Squires in nobberland, for singing Blackpool songs, was hammered,us Garstang country folk would travel far and wide for a night out (apart from the Chequered Flag on a Friday night or after an away game). Trips to Peppermint Place in Blackburn, the Hollywood bar/Squires/Snooty Fox? in the darkside - some great nights and long taxi journeys!!!!
Was there a club called Park Lane above Rumours ? or have i dreamt it upIn the 70's the club above Jenks was known as Papa Jenks. The ground floor, which had live bands, was Mama Jenks. Can’t remember what it was called but you haven’t dreamt it, I used to go in there and they had the old fashioned corded phones on the tables with numbers on them, if you saw someone you fancied you could give them a call and see what happened, I met my ex wife in there ( pity the line wasn’t engaged) ok I made that last bit up, used to go in Lucy’s bar downstairs quite a lot as my girlfriend at the time had a brother who was gay, he went home early one night and I won a massive all singing all dancing box of chocolates in a raffle but was to embarrassed to go on stage to collect themWas there a club called Park Lane above Rumours ? or have i dreamt it up
