Old Nightclubs

Promises, and here's a blast from the past circa '87 New York New York. Downstairs dive somewhere near where Yates's/Layton Raikes are now.

Bunters did something similar i think. It was called American Touchdown when I first went in, Xmas 86. It would've been barely a quid a pint then, so a tenner in seems a bit steep to get in, you'd have to down a few pints to get your moneys worth and beaing in mind Nightclub pints were usually shit 😱.

IIRC wasn't the Touchdown the old 007? Sorry if it's an obvious question but it's absolutely ages since I've been up town
I posted in this tread a while ago (page 2), but don't mind saying again how brilliant the old Galleon was (amongst others I mentioned)

£10 to get in and 1p a pint, in a way, was really good business. Esp if people weren't drinking much late on after a night in town
But I am guessing the ale wouldn't have been that great? (just seen Potts post - confirmed my assumption)
From my hazy memory it was what was previously the Mardi Gras.

It was about £2.50 to get in and about the same for a pint, so you had to drink more than three pints to be in profit.

The beer wasn't great though; but I guess that wasn't the reason we went in.

Mardi Gras,Touchdown Tavern,Just Ji's then Swallows, cant remember after that. You could do half price drinks tue/thurs down most places, remember taking some old pennys in somewhere to buy a pint but cant remember where,Sundays used to be good,Rumours or wherever extension was till midnight. Think the licensing laws have ruined the nightclub scene over the years. Those days were legendary in the 80's.

so many... Addisons, Brannigans, Oz, Zone, Addisons, Dana at Oz, Sequins, Maccys, Heaven and Hell, Rumours, Main Street, Bizness, Time, Promises, Cotton Club, Tache... that Indie club that moved around a bit... sure I have forgotten a few!

Stan - the indie club started at Jenks, then onto Gaiety’s and finished up somewhere else on Talbot road. Mid-90s, Brit-pop at its peak and you could wear what you liked. Perfect night out.

In my slacks and shirt clubbing years, we’d do all the usual ones; palace, bizniz, Main Street, heaven and hell. They were all shit really.

What were the clubs in Cleveleys besides the Cleveleys Hotel? I remember Gallopers but was there one called the Queen's in the 80s on the old Cleveleys Hydro site?
Block of flats there now. Anyone recall?

Had battles in Dixieland when a coach load of Geordie's turned up...The Squire became our residence after that. Chelsea headhunters turned up one night after they played Blackburn away and they got mullered...they came back a few years later but it turned into a biker/heavy rock club...a few casualties on both sides.

The Showboat do you mean Fargo?

Used to be a glass collector/barperson at the John Jacobs Golf Club better known as The Phoenix and then became Valentino’s just as I left. Now the Tee Time Golf Centre of course on Fleetwood/Devonshire Rd. Twas a cracking little club.

Original 007
Lemon Tree
Sands Casino
Queens Cleveleys
Springs / Metro
Trader Jacks
Illawalla
Tangerine Club

...and a few more plus all the great pubs and bars of the late 60's, 70's and 80's.

Used to go every night to the Dolphin bar and then upstairs at weekends to Queens, quality
Oxford pub, 007, Lemon Tree.
worked at the lemon tree on Friday nights, used to kick off regularly.

Every Tuesday night down in basement at The Galleon listening to Dave and Schulzy skiffle some jazz tunes. Petrified fish in the portholes and copper table tops. Jules Holland came down there one night and gave an impromptu gig. Memories.

QTS, I was on the door at Secrets in Topping St that night, they first tried to get in our place and were politely told to do one as it's "members only" and one of them mentioned in a cockney accent "Where the fack is this Tache place? I heard they let every cant in there" We directed them around the corner to the Tache but mentioned it might not end well for them if they went in there misbehaved and got lairy. I read the press report the day after, they clearly took no notice of our stern warning 😂

Happy days...they made it halfway up the stairs in Squires and were done in around 5 mins.... When they came back for revenge We had all moved on to Blinkers on Topping st.
TBF they would have done us as they were tooled up with knifes this time and we were just street scrappers.

Yes it was the Dolphin and the Queens I was thinking of. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you when you're an old bugger, cheers Matesrates.

Some great memories with the names here, The Calypso, DixieLand, Rumours (early years) Illusions, Sands, Adam and Eves, Man Friday's, Addison's, Jokers (South Shore) The Tangerine, frequented them all throughout the 80's at some point. Some old pubs I can remember from early drinkings rounds, The Little Vic, Criterion, Dickson Bar, Clifton Ale House, Yates (old Yates) The Station, one on Cerdar Square that's now a hotel I think.

Great carefree happy times before the kids and mortgage came along.

That's if you ever could get in, especially as a group of lads. The locals card never worked there. When we did finally get the honour of being allowed entry you're right about the totty RB although very clicky.
Locals card always worked for me, Tuesday nights were the best after footy training and a few beers in the Dunes. They tended to let in the girls who were on holiday but not the lads which was 👍 for us
Number 3 Wine Bar then the Lemon Tree Friday, never a member but Matt on the door always let us in if we slipped him a few quid
Trader Jacks if we fancied a change.

Love Shack. Had to be there at 5.30pm, to be let in by the bouncers around the side………opened officially at 10pm …. Great days…….

Sequins, Promises, Shaboo, Tiffanys at the Mecca for the 18s on a Monday night, for a mad piss up the Tache, Blinkers. Rumours on a Saturday afternoon as it felt like a day nightclub, would order anything on the bottom shelf to watch the barmaids in their knickers bend over, if we fancied a mad one and a good chance of a ruck, the Castle, Foxhall and Manchester! Tower lounge Sunday afternoon was madness for a few hours!!
