OLD PICTURES OF BLACKPOOL FC

Does that make it alright? It was her policy of caging us in that directly led to 97 deaths at Hillsborough, a combination of fences and police attitudes that all football fans were hooligans.
I recall clambering on the ‘safety’ fences at Hillsborough to celebrate getting through against Sheffield Wed a few months before the tragedy, Wiz. I shudder to think what it was for them that day. I also recall bricks flying across our kop vs Bolton in the mid-70s; thankfully, things are better now and we can all agree on that.

Her policy and hers alone was it 🤔
Maybe there was a better way of sorting out the hooligans (of which unfortunately, I was one)
With the aid of hindsight, was there a better option?

So nothing has changed. We are all watched by the police home and away and that's probably been instigated by various PMs/FA/UEFA/EFL etc.

She was PM for the whole of the 80s.

She also swept what went on at Hillsborough under the carpet.

Heartless woman.

I'm not denying that she was heartless in some things she did.
You're an intelligent man and I would like to think that you know that the PM is just a puppet for the top civil servants to use as a figurehead.

I loved Rigby Road stadium. I watched the rugby and the dogs there, really handy for Central Club, and it had the gasometer which just added to the gritty realism of the place. I accept and welcome change and progress but a little piece of my heart is missing with the absence of that place and those things.

I was gutted that the 'Pool had a home game that day so I missed the Leigh game. Made a good fist against Cas in the final too, far from disgraced.
Hereford at home. Abandoned with Pool 1-0 up through a Billy Ronson goal from the edge of the box, low to the keepers left.

Walked past Borough Park and saw the TV cameras.

What was the saying before each dog race, Bugsy is on the move/run something like that.
Yep. Spot on. I used to love going to the dogs with my old man as a kid. Late 70s, Friday night, up in the seats looking out with The Kop Roof in the distance.

There was a social club/bar on ground level near the players tunnel, I remember playing pool there once as a kid, my mates Mum worked behind the bar. I never visited the nightclub upstairs, Stix.

Stix was a place where the 'ladies' were of more mature years (I was 18ish) and I swear they had mattresses on their backs.

A player- Peter Subrisky who was from NZ was working as a Club bouncer round Blackpool. I got on with him and he ensured I never paid to get in.

On reflection, horrible times really. The sexism was rife. Not from me I must add.

I have always remained suspicious that the truth of her role post Hillsborough ie cover up politically has never come out.

The police blamed Liverpool fans
The press did the same

The truth was the stand was so poorly designed, the video evidence was clear the first time I saw it there was a disaster right in front of your eyes
The match should never have started

And the political knee jerk reaction against genuine footie fans ridiculous

Whether we ever get the political truth I’ll never know but the police in those days had the freedom to act with impunity in any public situation or confrontation

It’s hard to trust a copper - that bit always sticks with me

Steve Morgan on the right - is the lad in the middle called Neil? maybe McDonald ( i know he was our manger and a different fella ) i recognise the lad on the left but i can't remember his name

Brilliant footage of us going mental that day in the Town End...we got beat though in the end so I'd recommend only watching about 53secs to 1 min 17seconds.
Love how the camera shows a hundred or so in the seats, then pans round behind the goal to see the absolute limbs 🧡

You've just reminded me pengy me & my bro took my old man in the seats. We were evicted before the town end & he was muttering in a very loud voice as we were submerged amongst nobbers.

Great commentary I love the way he gives us a health warning that 2 Nobbers goals are to follow so switch off.

I was there that day and at first the police and stewards were trying to cram us into half of the town end. It was obvious from the thousands of Pool fans pouring in they couldn't get away with that so they opened both sides with hundreds pouring in after the game had kicked off. Great day apart from the result.
