The Blackpool player is John Prentis standing in for Jimmy Armfield. This was his 8th and final appearance for us.A pat on the back if you can name the Blackpool player to the left of the ball as you look.
Additional kudos if you can name the West Ham player having the shot.
A year before my time. I take it that is Waiters in goal. Who is our defender stood just in front of him? Looks a bit like Armfield on that photo. The Blackpool player is John Prentis standing in for Jimmy Armfield. This was his 8th and final appearance for us.
The WHU player shooting is Brian Dear , who was one of the 4 WHU players fined for the 'Brian London incident 'a few years later.
The game was played on 19/3/66 and Blackpool won the game 2 1. This was the first win in 8 and we won 4 of the next 6 games to more or less ensure survival in the top division.
Yes , Waiters in goal , Tommy Thompson is the player just in front of him . The other Blackpool players in the picture are Hughie FisherA year before my time. I take it that is Waiters in goal. Who is our defender stood just in front of him? Looks a bit like Armfield on that photo.
Thanks Fess. Wasn't it around that time that Chopper won our player of the year?Yes , Waiters in goal , Tommy Thompson is the player just in front of him . The other Blackpool players in the picture are Hughie Fisher
on his knees and John McPhee ,I think, far right.
Player of the season 64/5 and 67/8. He was also Blackpool's first ever substitute. Thanks Fess. Wasn't it around that time that Chopper won our player of the year?
Thanks. I was at one match in 1966/67. 1967/68 was my first 'proper' season but I wouldn't have been aware of that. I was too busy goggling at Tony Green and Gerry Ingram.Player of the season 64/5 and 67/8. He was also Blackpool's first ever substitute.
And two years after this pic was taken the man in blue made himself a proper Pool legend.
Ha ha they always deny that , a great night nonetheless.I was on that day and a night never forgotten in the memory bank.
No footage which there wasn't those days which was a shame.
An old preston fan once told me he'd never seen the ground so full it was a sea of tangerine.
I wasn't there but the attendance was given as 34,000 and supposedly many locked out. They played at home to Cardiff exactly a week later at Deepdale in front of just over 5.000..Ha ha they always deny that , a great night nonetheless.
On this day in 1956 Sir Stanley was presented with the Ballon D'Or by the Mayor of Blackpool. The first ever winner.View attachment 22278
One of my favourite seasons - obviously. As a 10 year old in the summer of the promotion I was excited to see us in Div 1 but had no thoughts about whether we would stay up. I just enjoyed the moment. The first thing I was looking forward to was Blackpool being one of the Div 1 teams in the Shoot cardboard league tables at the start of the new season. What a season this one turned out to be ;)

Who is the Peter Crouch look-a-like second from the left? That Sheffield Wednesday match was my very first game watching BFC. Alan Ball got the winner in a 1-0 win. Tony Waiters was in goal
I always thought the biggest loser after that equaliser was Richard Sendall.Video

What a game this was. Robbed
How on earth can that City equaliser be given? At least 3 fouls on Barry Siddall, and just watch the ref when he gives the goal. He's practically joining in with the celebrations.
Graham RoweWho is the Peter Crouch look-a-like second from the left?
I am not sure, but it may have been either Tommy Thompson or Graham RoweWho is the Peter Crouch look-a-like second from the left?
Tommy Thompson is on the far right of the picture with his hand on the post. Not sure you can confuse the two as Thompson was about 5 7 , Rowe about 6 3!!I am not sure, but it may have been either Tommy Thompson or Graham Rowe
Must be Rowe thenTommy Thompson is on the far right of the picture with his hand on the post. Not sure you can confuse the two as Thompson was about 5 7 , Rowe about 6 3!!
