Summer Transfer Rumours trois - Will Appy (re)sign anyone?

Do people still think we have a small transfer budget now 🤔

We've now had a 200k bid in for a RB, 500k bid in for a striker, and 500k+ bid for a CM, that puts our budget well over 1 million and that's only accounting for the bids we know about/ have happened so far.

I've said it before and I will say it again, the board have done very little if anything at all to make people doubt their ambition and commitment, they deserve the benefit of the doubt when things might not look like they're coming off.
Yeah thats peanuts for Championship

Nobbers chasing Sterling if you believe it.

I remember reading on penisonline last season when we signed him that he would be out of his depth in the championship.

I bet he’ll be a fantastic signing now if they do get him. 🤣

Was just going to ask if he’s any good ?

Don’t know much about him

Would you take him back?

I actually like the look of that Norton Cuffy lad at Lincoln, looked good last season

Wouldn’t mind him but would imagine he’ll be on your radar if you need a RB

Thanks , he would definitely be played at wingback , I’m not sure but sounds like he could do a job

Not sure about that.

He seems to fall between FB and CB, a bit too big and not good enough on the ball to be an attacking FB, a bit too small to be a CB, someone who's perhaps best used as cover across the back line or possibly in a back 3.

Yes we have a small budget for the division. Most of us have understood that. Its not that hard to grasp, or to see why other clubs in the division have bigger budgets. It seems a bit pointless criticising everything on the basis that we should have more money than we have. A stubborn blindness modus operandi.
I'm just stating a fact

Someone was saying we are splashing the cash, we are not by any means

Its relative isn't it. Depends what you compare it to. We are spending more than we ever have apart from a brief period when we had Premier League money and we didn't spend much then. Its pointlrsz comparing our spending with the majoriry of clubs in the Championship because they have very different means. Some of them have huge debts too.

I'm not comparing us to any other club

Well if you’re comparing our spending vs our history, then yes we are spending a decent amount of money considering it’s second season in this division not too long after a season with no crowds and also on the back of the owner pledging £30-40m on the training ground and east stand.

Out of interest, what would make you happy?

I'm certainly happy with the Appleton appointment i just hope the club back him so he can land his targets

Latest on Lyons who may well be in Champions League action tonight.

Why risk losing out on him? In today’s market this is peanuts. He’s agreed terms, pay them what they want and get him signed. Stop farting about.

Mirror saying Burnley are still after Gabriel. If we do sell him then we need to make sure they pay top money for him.
I would be sad to see him go, great guy and brilliant footballer.

That being said he signed for a a fair bit (700k wasn’t it?) on a long term contract, I think it’s reasonable to expect 1.5/2m out of the big spenders in the league and if so it’s good business - sell to reinvest

If we sell it would have been good to have Sterling on loan and spend a portion of the money on a midfielder.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that Burnley are willing to pay a hefty fee for JG given the season he just had.

Andy Lyons played for Bohemians and like Danny Mandriou crossed the river to bitter rivals Rovers.

A very good defender.

Mandriou went for less than 40k due to a contract clause, on the other hand Liam Scales went to Celtic for a huge figure!

Unless he is injured I think he will play tonight, a very important game for Rovers.

Would love to see him join us.

Agree. I'd be talking the price up not talking them out of it though. Using up the first month of last season waiting on Forest and then agreeing a 4+1 & a fee on a right back, who was second choice when on loan the season before in league one, sounded like a better move for selling club and player than it did us. You'd want a solid 40+ apps man or a defensively solid assist machine for that compared to the other business done.

Nice guy who might develop his all round game in time, but if they can get out of that contract and turn a profit within twelve months then he can always be re-signed on loan again or on shorter terms if the next move didn't work.

Doesn't need anything fancy at full back. Just two solid dependable lads. Spend the money on goals.

I remember you saying we should buy Mandriou, I think a couple of posters mentioned you should contact the club with your local knowledge

I disagree in part. Two good full backs are essential for a good team, especially in a 4-3-3.

That's right but I doubt he's going to be the second coming of Trent Alexander Arnold or Kyle Walker or anyone like that. And it would maybe be good business sense to take a fee now to get out of the long term contract he's on and start again. Ideally with both full back positions. Though if they can get Husbands dodgy hamstrings sorted he's probably the closest to someone who can just get on with it and do a job of allowing the winger in front to play their game.

My local knowledge is avaialable to the clubI am available to the club
Disregard the above post I slipped in the clammy conditions before editing!

Never contacted the club, some players I recommended did not reach the heights I predicted but others have been good.

Watch out for Mandriou at Lincoln though and fingers crossed for Lyons.
