England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v Italy 🇮🇹 Euro Final 🏆 Official Thread 11.07.21

Hopefully Southgate will learn from this and be proactive in his game management.

He's done a lot right, he's clearly done what previous managers have failed to do in getting the team to play as a team.

18 months is the big one. It's winnable, but let's play to our strengths.

Too much looking for blame, but it's how football fans are on the whole innit? We lost a final on penalties, so we did a hell of a lot more right than we did wrong. Toss of a coin job really. I felt we did the same thing as we did against Croatia 3 years ago, great first half then withdrew. But it's easy to say this stuff sitting here. Italy ate a good side on an incredible run.

Well done Gareth and the players. Did much better than I expected. The future looks much brighter. 👍

Don’t blame Grealish or Sterling, Southgate picked the penalty takers. The manager takes the plaudits he should also shoulder the blame.
I'm pretty sure the players themselves, before the match obviously, will decide who the penalty takers will be. Southgate could of course overrule the players. I agree however it appears to be a bad tactic to agree to players coming on cold to take them and the 2 youngest players. Sadly my pre-tournament predictions proved right for Italy to win and England to go out without losing a match. Overall I've enjoyed the performances we just fell short with too much negativity tonight.

Tbf penalty shoot outs are a bit of a lottery…but rashford was truly dreadful, in such a high pressure situation, and the whole momentum swung….personally I don’t think he’s good enough to play for England but that’s another story…

But he has to get rid of those negative tactics.

Well we were bang average most of the team, couldn’t even beat Scotland. Total cowardice from Southgate tonight, a depressing watch. Sure he’s a nice guy but jeez his teams are a hard watch. Which is ok if you don’t have the players, but we do he just wouldn’t use our match winners.
You know, you might be right, you might be wrong, it's gone now.

Roll on the new season, then everyone can have a pop at Critch when it doesn't go right.

Oh well at least we can still sing the Nations favourite football song 3 lions, it would have been a shame for that to disappear. 60, 70, 80 90 years of hurt!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

And now we wait for the ** told you so knobheads who've had to wait four weeks to have their pop at Southgate.

FUCK OFF.
No lytham on this occasion YOU fuck off.
One game (Ukraine) where England looked quality, the rest of the tournament has been somewhat dour. This is until he decides to bring on ATTACKING players.

That game tonight was an abject lesson in how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. An early goal, Italy rattled, so what happens? We go all trippy tappy🤦‍♂️

They were shite down the flanks all night but we rarely threatened. They've got two ** dinosaurs at central defence, when did we go at them?

The simple fact is England sat back and hoped that one goal would have been enough. I feel sorry for Phillips as he played his bollocks off all night but Southgate, whichever way you want to fluff it up was responsible for that defeat.

Congratulations to Italy WINNERS of the tournament.
And England? Just file this experience along with all the other bloody heartaches we've had to endure.

But still it's not the winning or losing it's the taking part eh, we got a final yay. And what have we got to show for it.

Let’s look on the bright side, when was the last time a football team made several hundred million europeans ecstatically happy.😂😂

Did you have that typed up ready to go this afternoon?

34% possession at home in a final.

Italy have Mancini, we have Southgate.

What has he ever won as a coach / manager?

Ohr 26 man squad was more than capable of beating the Wops.

Poor team selection and tactics throughout tonight.

He's a safe choice for the FA.

The person who will ask Southgate the most questions about his decisions will be himself.

Italy the better team but Englands experienced players should have step forward and taken penalties. Saka should not
have been put in that position. Rashfords penalty was unacceptable. The manager should have demanded the experienced pro's
step forward.

Absolutely no chance will we win the World Cup in Qatar. Imagine our 9 defensive scufflers in the heat with the ball being played around them and Big Harry Kane breathing out of his arse chasing aimless punts. Still Foden Grealish can top their tans up on the bench.

Before the penalties were actually taken Southgate appeared to be consulting with his assistant and writing names and order down. He then called the group together and was pointing to players and appeared to be telling them the order. Of course I could be completely off the mark but that’s what it looked like to me.

At the very least, England have a solid team base to build on for next year's World Cup. The team has had experience in a final by playing a very sound defensive team in Italy which IMO, will go a long way. Will Southgate get the chop after those managerial choices during the game, and the pen shootout?

Big question is who could replace him?

I think sometimes you have to give some credit to the opposition. We were the better side in the first half, but to expect to dominate for 90 minutes against an experienced and quality Italian side???

Experience told in the end and that probably can be said for the manager as well as the team perhaps.

The players will have learned a lot and we push on to the World Cup 👍

Sit back on a 1-0 😂 makes our nation look horrendous, thought we had won it before the game.. same old, roll on Bristol away!!!

Won't be replaced, no chance.

Question...

After we scored how many shots on target did we have in the next 118 minutes! 😣

Anybody can win a game if it is handed to 'em. Southgate played the correct tactics in the first half, why change? If Italy were so superior they would have finished it in 90mins.
Because Italy changed their tactics and a few players had an off night and looked tired.

Italy weren't miles better. Yes, they had a lot of the ball but didn't do much with it that threatened us. Mount let his man go for the goal and that was that.

Rashford and Sancho were waiting to get on for at least 5 minutes but the official wouldn't let them on for at least 2 throw ins.

The experts will all be on Rashford, Sancho and Saka's twitter accounts now giving constructive advice on how they can take better penalties. Proud to be English.

Classic England. I think they call that choking 👎🏻. On to the desert For another tawdry episode of failure.

TBH At least we won’t have to put up with a bandwagon jumping “beaming” Johnson on the front page of the Daily Fail!

It’s sad but that’s football, if you can’t hack disappointment then you are watching the wrong game, England gave it a good go but came up short is all. It’s been a brilliant tournament, no complaints from me 👍

Italy were the best team overall in the tournament and we were probably the second best, no shame in that.
Exactly. They. Couldn’t beat us over 120mins.

Southgate and the team have reignited my passion for England. Not an easy task. Well done and hard luck.

I agree with some of what you say but those two dinosaurs are a couple of grizzly, battle hardened tyrannosaurus rex!! Not easy to get past and can do some damage on set pieces!!

We can see tonight Kane didn't have a chance really and when that happens it tells you we haven't provided him the service.

Usually means we haven't been good enough on the ball to create enough chances to do so.

Post of the day. The experience was all to see once Italy pushed ahead. They controlled possession for most of the game and dictated terms in the pace of the attack.

I’m afraid you will still have to put up with a beaming Bozo, as soon as he finds another passing bandwagon to jump on.😜

** hell Bottle, that's cheered me right up actually 👍

Did you guys see poor Saka's face before he took his penalty? He was shitting himself. Why didn't Super (yeah, right) Jack Grealish volunteer to take a pen?

Don't think it's a case of "told you so" from Southgate-haters.
Italy were the best team in the competition and better side tonight.........on our patch.
Penalties are a leveller and, whether Southgate selected them and made late substitutions accordingly, or they stepped up to the plate and volunteered after 120 minutes, we weren't good enough.
The stats. tell the tale:-
We went from 3-5-2 to 5-3-2 in the second half, had two shots on target all game and half as much of the ball as the opposition over 120 minutes.
We should congratulate Italy
Final thought; it's getting like the NFL where special teams players are often called upon to kick a game-winning field goal in Overtime,

No.

He's just gone semi final/final.
