The Summer Transfer Thread - Part 1.

L1 top goal scorers, put a line through any of those at clubs that are promoted, over the age of 32 and at clubs unlikely to sell. It really doesn't leave much and shows just how important it is to keep Jerry and find a replacement for Madine.

That list tells you two things.

You either rely on your front two to score bags of goals a la Ipswich to gain promotion or have a team that have goals throughout the team as Hardie and Ennis only got 25 between them at Plymouth, 1 less than Chaplin on his own at Ipswich!!
Only 4 players on the list who are the elusive 20 goals + player, one of which we could have had 🤦🏻

You would be mad he is the worst goalkeeper we have had at deepdale for many years. he made so many mistakes .
He was a liability.
Would love to see us bring in this keeper to compete with Dan Grimshaw next season – former team mate of Andy Lyons at Bohemians. Probably unlikely as just called up to Rep of Ireland squad:

The save he makes around 58 seconds of the clip is something else!

Go get him.

We should bring in genuine competition for Grimshaw, but it has to be a taller goalkeeper. Grimshaw might get found out if we keep conceding from set pieces because the opposition can lump it right on top of him. If that ends up being the case, then we want another option who is 6'3 ish..not another relatively small goalkeeper.

Agreed.
Grimmy's lack of height was played on by some of our opponents, who crowded around him at set pieces, boxing him in.
A big brutal keeper is what we need - someone with the physique & aggression of big Gaz 🤣

Accrington Stanley got Lukas Jansen on loan from Burnley last season. 6'6. 24. Don't know how good he is, but you would think we could get him on a permanent. I'd love a goalkeeper that height. Makes a massive difference.

Re Connor Ripley - ask the Morecambe fans what they think of Ripley! He has had an outstanding season and made only major error. He commands his box, knocks forwards and defenders out his way and is a great shot-stopper. Virtually all goalkeepers make the odd error -see De Gea for example.

Can't help thinking there's an element of flawed thinking here. While there is clearly an optimum sort of height level (6' 3"/ 6' 4") you would ideally like to be looking at for any keeper, is there not a counter argument to be put forward against those possessed of - for want of a better description - particularly significant height stats, in that I strongly suspect there is a corresponding reduction in their all-round level of mobility? I mean, you talk of such peronnel making 'a massive difference', but why, then, do we not see far greater numbers of such characters turning out on matchday?

6'6 may well be too tall and you might be right in that it means he isn't very good overall. As I mentioned, I don't know how good he is.

The fact is though that at the top level of football (Premier League) 25 goalkeepers fall between 6'2 and 6'4, accounting for 70% of the total goalkeepers. Some are slightly taller, like Nick Pope and Robert Sanchez. It is therefore pretty clear that it is not flawed thinking, but the ideal of what a goalkeeper should be.

If you pick up a taller goalkeeper, you train with them and hope that they get better and maybe you'll be able to sell them to a Premier League club. If they are too small though, that will always be a limiting factor and Premier League clubs are highly unlikely to be interested. There is a reason for that.

Morecambe's player of the season. Tall and experienced. Possibly not a bad shout. Wouldn't necessarily mean Grimshaw isn't the number one as he would be coming in on a free, but would definitely provide good competition. Might end up securing the number one spot.

Patino wants a permanent move.

Probably out of our price range though.

Could he make it as a regular starter at a Championship club?

Needs to massively improve his game, flattered to deceive a lot.

Needs to move the ball quicker, be less careless in our 3rd and get in the gym because he was almost as weak as CJ Hamilton this season.

I’m glad you said almost as weak, I’ve had stronger cups of tea.😁

Latest Jerry rumours.
Luton, Cov, West Brom, Bristol City and Ipswich

£2.5mn bid ‘already rejected’

Someone is good at getting/keeping Jerry’s name in the paper

Scott Arfield just been released by Rangers. Age 34 mind.
Harlee Dean, Birmingham centre back, former captain. Just been released.Age 31.

Critch was, always, a massive fan of Stewart I am sure he will soon be approached to give our medical team something to do

Jordan Graham released by Birmingham.

Pacey winger who played for Gillingham in league one a couple of seasons ago, bagging 13 goals and 10 assists. I'd have him.

Great player, there will be hot competition for that one

You're back. Critch thoughts?
Would've probably preferred a fresh start and fresh ideas from someone more on the up in their career.

I'm as contradictory as the next football fan ("I understand why you left for quadruple wages but fuck you for doing so.") But I liked watching his team last time round in League 1. We strangled the life out of teams and played some nice stuff at times. Hopefully we can get back to that.

Same, i fancied a fresh start young manager but I'm good with the continuity candidate.

Peterborough putting Jonson Clarke-Harris on the transfer list was a shock, they're also open to offers for Frankie Kent who's a very solid option for the left side centre back. Him & Marv would be formidable at the back.

Missed out on Todd Gerr who has signed for the Nobbers according to Nixon.

If we are looking for a creative midfielder, who also weighs in with goals, we could not go far wrong with Owen Moxon, who has just won promotion with Carlisle. He was named in the League 2 team of the season and is a good size too.
His delivery today wasn't great, which is unusual for him. That aside he seems to have a great engine and likes to press forward. I for one would be very happy if we took an interest in him.

Two of England's finest goalkeepers, Banks and Shilton were 6'
What's the saying? Size isn't everything 😉👍🏻
